I have been looking into the power consumption rates for the two power amps I plan on running, I was going to pull one dedicated circuit to them, after looking at consumption rates I am wondering if I should pull two while I am at it.

The Adcom and the Hafler both pull around 1200-1300 VA with the Adcom claiming 1500 VA peaks, when opened up, I am going to use 10 guage wire but still think I might be better off to run two circuits. Any thoughts on this?

On another note, I picked up a copy of this at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the big moment. biggrin.gif

Jim

I recommend putting in a pair of dedicated 20 amp circuits.

I agree, that has been my thinking that while I am doing it, it isn't that much more work, and amplifiers get hungry.

I got a chance to hook up the Adcom yesterday.

I am currently running it alone as I want to get a 'feel' for it. I must say I really like what it is doing for clarity. I was listening to The Traveling Wilburys, I know that Bob Dylon is not known for his singing voice, but the definition in the raspiness (is that a word) is very cool, not just a slurring gutteral sound but you can almost hear the strain and vibration in his larynx. In another song the cow bell ( I need more cow bell) was much clearer and noticable, and the bass drum has a entirely new sound, instead of being a thump thump, you can distinguish the initial strike followed by the thump. I will do some more listening but so far I really like what I am hearing and at this point think the Adcom will be used for the mid to highs in my future set up, it is by far more articulate than the Hafler Pro 500.

That's great news Jim. After all the long wait was worth it. Enjoy. soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

nice. when the subtleties and nuances of the music emerge, it makes all the difference in the world. that is very good sound.

I really think a lot comes down to that this Adcom may be faster and have more reserve power when the attack is needed, they are both 250 Watt amps, I know that Glenn checked the Adcom to 280 Watts prior to clippng and at the rated 250 Watts .0028%. So far I have only been able to play 1/4 volume, the wife was home and she thought that was to loud 18 feet away. soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif I admire what the Hafler is and able to do, they both have their strong points, and will get hooked up together.

Any thoughts?

the only issue i can see with bi-amping with dissimilar amps is gain matching. if either amp has gain controls then they can be adjusted to reach the proper balance between the amps.

Hafler Pro's, unlike the home version, have gain controls for each channel. I just have to hope at this point that it can keep up with the Adcom. biggrin.gif They are both rated at 250 per channel.

definitely a much easier task if both amps have gain controls. though i would think that there wouldnt be enough difference to make the Hafler sound weak on the low end. it will be interesting for sure.
