Prisoners, how do you like the Accuphase P-300 amp? I've been lusting after one for awhile and was wondering if its met or exceeded your expectations over the years. I currently don't own any Accuphase gear, but am familiar with their reputation for performace. Would love to read your thoughts.

The short answer is the P-300 is with me for life. I got it and the matching C-200 preamp for $250 at a TV repair shop of all places. Both needed cap replacements but the price was right. After listening to dozens of SS amps everything else sounded just not quite right.
After recapping the P-300 measured at just under 200 wpc, and while power isn't everything sometimes there is no substitute for it. Most importantly at low volumes the sound is still rich and full and it doesn't change charachteristics as the volume goes up. The C-200 preamp on the other hand has not aged as well. While it wasn't bad in any one area I prefer the sound of the AES tube. The strength of the Accuphase pre is in the number of ins and outs, and the phono stage sounds pretty good. ( better than my NAD pp-2, but space is an issue). The smoothness of the tube pre and the massive clean power of the Accuphase makes for great listening. I highly reccomend one if you can find it.

Nice system, clean layout, and very unobtrusive in a good way. I bet it sounds great. Thanks for sharing.

I also like the room treatments above the speakers. wink.gif

Well, those stockings are L to R; My father-in-law, mother-in-law, me, brother-in-law, my wife, and lastly my two cats. Audio IS my favorite, and at least recently, my ONLY hobby! Thanks for all the nice comments.

Being kind of new at this, I can't say as I've ever seen those speakers. Mind telling me about them? Thanks.

Meadowlark Audio was a small company (now defunct) that used Scanspeak drivers in real wood cabinets. All were virtually hand made using copper posts and quality parts in the crossovers. They also made big three-ways and small bookshelves. These two ways were, to my ears, the best sounding floor-standers under 5k. I got these on a demo sale locally (Chicago area) for well-below list just before the company went under.
There is a great review from stereophile from a couple of years ago,it's still on thier website if you would like all the details.
I'm very pleased with these and can't imagine buying anything else any time soon. I've seen some on Agon and ebay from time to time for around $1-1.5k.

I heard the name originated from the famed Meadowlark Lemon. One of the grea-*test*-('") Harlem Globetrotters ever. Back in the 90's when the trotter's went bankrupt so did the speaker company. thats my story and I'm sticking with it.

Great looking system. I agree that in many cases mixing tubes with SS makes for the best of both worlds.

I´ve been watching a lot of Accuphase gear over at ebay. I hope I can get either one of their tuners or power amps, someday.
