Now that you mention it, I realize how much we would all love to see your system.

I bet we could all learn a thing or two from some pics.

Do you have a digital camera? I could walk you through the process. It´s a lot simpler than it sounds, actually.

Jorge

I just caught this post. I do have a digital camera, but its lens isn't quite enogh of a wide angle to encompass the entire system. Still, I could take a series of shots. If you would, send me a PM to "talk me through it," and I just might do what you ask! biggrin.gif

Added a couple of Bass bins....American Acoustics Labs, 2-12" woofers in each. For the price of a tank of gas for a full sized truck, I just couldn't pass 'em up....

Analog Addict- 11-14-2007
And here they are with some tweeters I had lying around.... biggrin.gif

Even running off a 12 WPC Sansui I have lying around, these get louder than I can stand, and sound remarkably good doing it.... soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

Those green metal horns look like Altec 511 B´s to me, so they probably are fed by mid / high compression drivers, not just tweeters.

Those horns sounds a lot better damped in some way. You ought to try it, Allan.

How are you crossing them over to the bass bins?

Heh, you don't seriously think I was calling them tweeters, do you Jorge????... biggrin.gif
It would be like calling Simplex W's "woofers".... soundt/lolnuts.gif

As for damping, the efficiency of the bass bins is actually a very nice match for the 511's/806A's. I've actually now paid for 1 of my 2 promised A-7 cabinets, so, once the Simplexes get in, I will probably take the 515's out of one of them, and plop them into the cabinets to be able to get some more use out of them..... soundt/beavisnbutthead.gif I'll have these 511's/806A's and the 1005/288 combinations to play with...soundt/woot.gif

As for crossovers, right now it's K.I.S.S. a simple first order high pass crossed over at 10KHz using a 2 uF cap...Nothing fancy, yet they sound great!

Allan,

I meant damping the resonances of the metal horn, not the levell of the response.

Adding some Blutak or something similar is normally used for this purposes.

Oh yeah, cutting the welds, caulking the fins, etc. I've heard of it being done, but haven't noted enough ringing on the horns to consider it...yet. I also want some of the more experienced Altec guys to hear my altec horns so I can get educated opinions.....

hifi_nut- 11-14-2007
Yeah, I had my Smith difraction mid-horns made of real wood-veneered MDF just to avoid that.

Analog Addict- 11-27-2007
Oh by the way, did I forget to mention these beauties?

Analog Addict- 11-27-2007
And let's not forget the motor(s)..... biggrin.gif

Dig the amplifier stand.... blink.gif 'faid that's all I'm doing with them for the time being... cool.gif

dingus- 11-27-2007
you know its quite a collection of gear in one room when a big Klipsch is relegated to an amp stand.

Been awhile boys.... soundt/afro.gif

Life's been good!

My horns grow bigger!!!!

Analog Addict- 04-05-2008
And STRONGER!!!!!

Analog Addict- 04-05-2008
Oh and the Amplifier stands have found another home.... biggrin.gif

Analog Addict- 04-05-2008
Got a new corner table or two that I like better.... cool.gif
