Been sidelined lately but while I was out today I decided to pull into a Savers. Have never seen anything other than some books and a couple LP's worth buying. Someone at a garage sale told me they had dumped a bunch of audio magazines there but I never found them. Anyway, went and took a look at the electronics and it seemed like the same old. Saw a Kenwood KT-5500 tuner and when I bent down to look saw some CDP's behind. A Magnavox and the Sony. Pulled out the Sony and plugged it in all the lights came on and there was a cd inside so I knew the laser was at least reading something. Cosmetics 9.5/10, small scuff on the faceplate and a pinhead sized nick on the top front edge. "Rosewood" sides. Got her home and put her on the Sony ES amp and hooked up Design Acoustics PS-8A's. Damn, this baby sings. Handles a CDR better than my Phillips CDR-795. blink.gif Something my Kyocera DA-910 can't do. Awesome build and weight. No remote though. Has Digital Out. Does anyone know why the two different RCA outputs, "Fixed" and "Variable"? soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif
Oh yeah both cdp's were priced at $9.99—$10.81 out the door. soundt/banana.gif Date code said it hit the shelves today.

The variable lets you plug it directly into a amplifier and control the volume. Also lets you control output when plugged into a preamp. Fixed is just that, fixed output. Somewhere close to maximum output of the player. Enjoy your Sony, I like mine for sure.

That's an absolute steal!! The Sony CDP-608esD is a very nice CD player. Manufactured in 1989, it has an 18 bit DAC. The MSRP was an even $1000. It is the little brother of the awesome CDP-707esD.

Little brother, or not, to the 707, that´s one heck of a score. soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

I´d start looking for a spare lazer assembly, if I were you. Then you´ll have a CDP to last you for life.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for all the info as it has been hard to find much on this model. Mike really helped re. the fixed/variable option. Couldn't figure out why the phone level affected output smile.gif. Mark, good to know as I thought it was an earlier second generation, ca. 1987 or so. Kind of explains why it handles CDR's so well. Jorge, I'll take what you said under advisement. It appears this unit was well taken care of. Still has the "Simulated Wood Grain" sticker. Elroy, nice offer. I'll try a remote that went to a 102. Very simple and if it works I may take you up on your offer. But, this thing has a ton of features. Even the display can be turned off. I am amazed at the sound and operation of this unit. And, the looks are awesome. I was sorry when I had to shut down last night. Looks like the Kyocera willl be moved to the bedroom. Here is a poor picture (just not enough room to set up a tripod yet) with the ES amp. With the tuner and cassete player, I almost have a full ES system. rolleyes.gif

That is absolutely beautiful. I'm very jealous.

I've got two lesser Sonys here- a 308ESD and a changer, a C75ES, and like them very, very much.

Congrats on a great score! soundt/jump.gif

A friend came by to get me out of the house and off to an estate sale. Was suppose to be antiques, which she likes. Apparently, this is a house owned by estate sale pros and they just brought an estate to there. Jumble of things from Japanese swords to glass insulators. Lots of lp's but nothing of interest. Went into a back room and started digging around in boxes and found a multi-function Sony CD remote an an unused early Discwasher D4+ (with black fabric) in factory package. Got both for 50¢ smile.gif. Remote is for a CD changer but all the controls work with my 608. Even the rotary dial on the line out volume can be turned by remote soundt/banana.gif. Been slim pickin's around here lately but then haven't been out much.
