Looking for two audio timers, one for me, one for a friend who's going to have major foot surgery on BOTH his feet, and will be bedridden for possibly months.
Anyone got a pair, or even one of these, kicking around, cheap?

Sure a Kenwood KR-1000 wouldn't work for your friend? They have a built in timer with different time settings available for each day of the week. Typically sell for less than a regular timer as well.

Jp, is it a later-issue timer?

I'm not too sure what you mean by "later-issue timer." The KR-1000, which does come up relatively often on eBay for ~$40, has an integrated timer function that will turn it on and/or at preselected times and at a preferred volume level, etc. This same timer also controls one or two (don't remember which) of the accessory outlets on the back. Basically, the model was an expensive clock radio with the same basic features and then some. If your friend doesn't already have a lot of gear, snagging one of these receivers might take care of both the gear and the timer, though without the benefits of a remote control.

Oh, it's a receiver. I see. I wasn't sure what it was by the model number.

Yeah, the beautiful, much beloved Kenwood KR-1000 Galaxy Commander. The model you've oft referred to as "the chrome plated turd."
