What is your best source for vinyl?

Mine is garage sales, the local SA has vinyl but it is the usual religious, Christmas, and 67 copies of Herb Alpert, occasionally something will turn up. The flea market sometimes is a source also but can be musty, you have to look all of it over but all are great sources for cheap music as long as you like vintage, if you like rap, you aren't going to find any.

We have a local used vinyl store, I am usually in competition with the owner for equipment and Lp's at the garage sales, and he marks the prices up to new and higher prices so I don't bother going there.

I have only bought a couple of the new releases and 180+ gram new Lp's. It has to be really special to spend the money for those, they are really nice but costly, I do have to admit that Satchmo Plays King Oliver (thanks reyneman) sounds fantastic on 200 gram vinyl, I later found a copy at a garage sale. soundt/doh.gif

Recently at a garage sale I picked up a mint copy of Switched on Bach for free, I even tried to pay for it. A lot of people still just want it gone, same with turntables. You might have to look at a lot of bad equipment but there is still some nice stuff to find, the hunt can be a large part of the fun.

Then the real problems start, being a pack rat it is hard to part with any of it, think Mr Whoopie's closet from Tennessee Tuxedo. I may need to rent some space at Larry's warehouse. biggrin.gif

For me it´s my friends and acquaintances.
It usually takes a few days or weeks to convince them their LP´s face a brighter future with me, but so far I´ve managed to convince all but one of them.

This way I got aproximately 800 LP´s for free. Some are repeated, tough.
