I have always like bob carver, from what I have read, everytime he ousted from a company, like phase linear, or the carver company, then the company started taking shortcuts, I think he got booted from the carver company in the mid 80's and most of the gear after that is hit and miss for quality. I think the same thing happened with "Sunfire" also.

On a side note, I think mr Bose is a genius too, but better at marketing than Carver.

Why would you put down what I'm trying to get? I have never said 1 bad thing about pioneer. But to me the best thing they ever did was their car stereos. I have never wanted nor needed a Pioneer. Time to quit. I had my say and so did you.

sorry about that. i was attempting to share what few experiences i've had with CARVER gear, and my thoughts on it.

i admit though, that i went about it the wrong way. very sorry.

BTW, i've never before seen a CARVER product in silver. are CARVER products in that finish particularly rare?

also, my aunt's boyfriend of ten years now, he has a CARVER PRO-LOGIC based HT receiver.
it used to be set in the T.V. stand back at their old apartment long ago. we were there visiting once, and i saw it.
did not care for it much at all, but it was sitting down there, unused and completely disconnected, filthy as all hell.
i couldn't stand the sight, so, while we were visiting, i went an fetched a whetted-down paper towel, and by the time we left, i had it all spit-shined.
it was a late eighties/early nineties model, with a large programmable remote, and a small ZONE-II remote with a membrane keypad.
in fact, it was this model here, if memory serves:

I don't think Mac was making a personal attack. My negative view on Carver should also not be interpreted as such.

Carver's The Receiver, MX-130, MX-150, and Carver 2000 receivers had a beautiful platinum look.

That Carver HT receiver looked a lot like my old HR-772, which was a TOTL 2-channel receiver rated at around 150 wpc. It was a tin can that suffered from "empty box syndrome". The transformer was simply too small for the power rating. The sound suffered by not having the power potential to sustain attack when driving hard. Not all is bad. The "black tie" looks were classy enough.

I'm using the 20.00 tuner / preamp right now. Sounds great. Running the headphones thru it. Did some deoxit and is good as new. Missing on - off button. Oh well a preamp for that kind of money what do you expect.

I hope nakdoc can do cdps. That CDp is worth 300.00. I payed 40.00. The ony thing I don't like about the Pre is the treble and bass controls. I'm not use to have them. I'm running them flat. Sounds great thru the headphones. Just ordered a programmable remote for Carver for 25.00. I do want the M500t. Going to run it the Norman Labs Just have to mod the Binding posts.

I keep my controls neutral too. I only want the source input, and not any other possible distortions

I just put the Carver pre to the Creek. You can tell a difference. There is more volume and more bass than before. Just running the cd the next is a cassette. Sorta miss my highs. They are there just not as profound.

PS Deffinantly not a POS. I can't spell.

It always amazes me how changing one component the amount of change that can occur.

that, and changing interconnects, as well. WOW, the difference can be positively staggering...

speakerman1- 09-23-2009
I am running some very nice interconnects that if I wasn't a dealer. I couldn't afford. The best I ever had were home made Goertz. Look them up. Their wires are Great.

I got dibs on larry's castoff IC's, biggrin.gif

I was surprised at how much more defined the music was after I changed to quality IC''s

don't worry, all the important gear in my A/V system is covered by top shelf MONSTER CABLE. hell, even some of the "unimportant" gear is. so you don't have to be worrying about any competition from me...

What do you think of the equipment? I'm thinking of starting a Carver rack.

These are nice amps overall, pro audio ones were dynamite for many years. More durable then most pioneer systems, esc pro audio, pioneer is a toy when it comes to demand.
