Of course it's an oustanding audio sytem...user posted image but, sorry to ask this :

What is the system you use to listen music in a day to day basis...?

...and another question :
I do believe that you have a great sound but, don't you think as an "audiophile" that with all that gear and so many amount of signal-split, you're going against the well known "audiophile" KISS theory ?

Only one thing missing though JP. You need an obsolete Denon cd player.  I just happen to know where a couple are located.

Nah. I had a Denon CD carousel a while back and found the sound to be, well, bad. I'm sure it's nothing compared to the much better players you have, but it's biased me a bit against the brand. Besides, I have a fondness for Sony CD players as the underdog brand.

I use this system daily both for music and television (the evening news never sounded so good -- though most audio through cable is taken from the compressed satellite downlink that makes for low 128-160kbps MP3 quality, much like FM radio). However, I do tend to use my computer system more due to my having a lot of work to do on the computer each day and with the advantages gained with ripping many of my albums into the FLAC format -- love having most any favorite song just a few key clicks away. Had I a laptop and Squeezebox, I'd likely use the main system nearly exclusively.

Well, I tend to view "audiophile" as an insult for it implies listening to the equipment, not the music, and believing in voodoo and vehemently opposing technical measurements and limitations of coloration. So, thanks. I do vacillate between the two extremes of very complex and minimalistic. The setup prior to my obtaining my Flatlines was my Sony CDP directly feeding the Fisher SA-16 through the variable level out then going directly to the Tannoys -- can't get much simpler than that. It had its advantages, but ultimately, I found the disadvantages of limited frequency range, an amplifier that had to work outside of its best frequency range and power envelope, and such to be far more significant. This current setup has a lot of issues, most stemming from my half-assed speaker arrangement (which will remain so until I can finally get the Maggie panels I need to get started on my speaker project) and lack of an active crossover, but the strengths far outweigh the weaknesses. This system became more complex through my tackling each speaker weakness and ultimately sounds better than most every KISS setup I've had or listened to in the audio boutiques. Still, it has far, far to go before I'll be happy with it.

Cool! How do you keep those chess pieces on that subwoofer though? ohmy.gif

The system has changed a little bit since this weekend. The Infinity Quantum 2s, being on loan to Mark B, are no longer serving duty as subwoofers. The Adire DPL-12/PR-15 subwoofer is currently in their place, running off of high-level inputs connected to the Onkyo's otherwise unused amplifier section with the XO set at its minimum of 40 Hz. The Maggies are now mostly open to the rear with the Infinities removed and the Kenwood's EQ has been engaged to drastically reduce the signal above the crossover point to clean up the sound (big improvement, actually). The amplifier currently on the ribbons is the Fisher SA-16. There's also now a fantastic sounding Denon DCD-1650AR currently on loan from Mark B serving duty as the main source.

I had intended this just to be a temporary arrangement until I could decide how I wanted to really change my system, but this combination is sounding very good and I'm enjoying listening to music through it to make any changes. I've not even put the Sonic Impact back on the ribbons just yet as the slightly bright (to me) Denon CDP is doing an excellent job countering the tube roll-off and everything is just seeming to play well together. That Denon is surprisingly transparent and clean sounding.

Funny, I was downright disliking my setup before the gathering, but after hearing the demonstration systems and returning to my own, it sounds a lot better than I was giving it credit for. Frankly, better than anything I heard this past weekend on the kind of music that I like (would likely fall short on the rock that dominated there).
