Since all of here seem to be willing to help each other make "sound" decisions, I thought I'd put this out to all of you.

Being in the business of buying and selling "stuff", I have a tendency to find a use for almost anything I see, and sometimes buy things I think I can sell, but find I'm the only one impressed with it. I have found something coming up for sale that I think could be quite useful to some, but don't quite know how "necessary" it might be. Here's a photo:

It's a 15 amp circuit strip w/breaker, but each of the 6 plug-ins has it's own on-off switch. There are two lots coming up for sale, with in excess of 500 pieces (four pallets) in each lot. The government paid as much as $50 each, but I would be looking at the general public as a customer.

Would you even buy one, as opposed to a "regular" one?

What would you pay if you needed one?

How much would be cheap enough that you'd buy one just to have it?

I have the room to store them. They weigh 5# each, so freight has to be added in for internet sales. Should I try to get them?

Thanks for the input!!!

Those are cool Larry, I think most people are going to want power conditioning capabilities also though. They could be useful to save wear and tear on old on off switches. I just don't know what kind of market there would be for them though.

How about uses for other than audio? Computers, etc.

I use something similar on my computer desk for turninig on my printer, a lamp, and a second monitor.

They might be handy on a work bench, or such for turning on auxilary lighting and such. I have one I picked up last year that a guy had been using as power distribution for a display booth.

Let's all try to think of uses for these switched outlets. soundt/sthinker2.gif

Assuming I could not find a use for it off hand, I'd pay $20 just to have it.

although, it could be very useful in a home workroom, or workshop. you could use it for your power tools, or may be for that "DIY lighting" that you installed in your shop to save money. I installed the lighting in my home workshop, to save the cost of an electrician putting in some fancy florescent lights--and a DIY switch--the light switch in my shop is actually one of those "pushbutton" switches they had in the early 20th century. I found a bunch of them in an old house, and took them. they're pretty cool, actually.

The workshop is really the only thing I would think that would be useful in, and it would be a pretty nice thing to have in it.

as for the stereo? I'd have to say no. my amps have "soft start" switches, as most others, and using a different switch would IMO be bad for the amp. on my settons, the security panel lights light up and blink out one by one (after turn-off!) when you turn them off. if you just unplug them, it kills the cool effect (lights don't glow and blink out) and soft-start.

That is a very well build power box with a good power cord and chassis. Also have independent circuit breakers. It could be very useful in a lot of situations but mainly in comps and audio related suff.

Minimum 30 dollars, there are alot of stuff like that here in EU but all are made of plastic and with only one circuit breaker and they cost sometimes more than 30€.

That's good stuff. soundt/thumbup.gif

Some power cond. do not have surge protection. so a power strip is needed. I'd give 20.00 with shpping. I may even may want more to sell to my customers. Grant Fidelity conditioners don't have surge protection.

Note: There is only one circuit breaker of the unit, located on the main switch. The individual switches do not have their own breaker.

The 1 circuit breaker I'm sure would cover the draw on all the outlets. Just like your house. And for the slow amp on. All my amps have that intergrated into them.

I´m sure you could flip some over at ebay, but 500 units minimum...????? soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

I agree with Alvaro. Those seem to be extremely well built.

I wonder about the local school district. Do they still have the audio visual carts that they wheel around?

Permanently attached to the cart it could be a multiple outlet with the capabilities of controling power to each audio visual aid, as well as additional line protection with the breaker. A school district would need several of these.

schools would be a good place to market them. science labs come to mind too, with the electric burners and other equipment used in class.

Bump. I'm resurrecting this thread.

The last batch of those went a little too high for me, so I let them slide. About two hours ago, I spotted another lot of 224 of them, with the sale ending about twenty minutes ago. I thought, what the heck, and bid a few times. My last bid was enough to take the others out, so I'm the proud owner. I didn't have a chance to physically inspect the sale, so if the count is way off I might have to default, but if not, Ill have a bunch to sell....

what's the make Larry?

itlldue- 08-12-2008
Don't know for sure. I looked them up on my database, but they only show one supplier, and they're not a manufacturer. The last ones I looked at were made by three different companies, mixed in a tri-wall. I'll pick them up next week and get a count and all the info.
