Fantastic system. soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

Thanks!
It's my pride and joy.

Interestingly, it was the 10B tuner that got me into this whole vintage tube Marantz thing.

I tended to believe that vintage tube gear was inherently noisy and unreliable. Some early McIntosh pieces I had were like this.

The Marantz tuner, OTH, was an eye opener. Performance was so good, that I had to get the rest of the pieces!

Needless to say, the Audio Research stuff was gone in a heartbeat. I don't even miss the remote control of the SP16L one bit!

I'm jealous! Marantz tubes will always be a Holy Grail. I guess I'll have to struggle on with my MAC's.

Well...
Old McIntosh units usually need to be recapped to get rid of the noise and hum and increase reliability. Collector's value drops when this is done.

Marantz tube gear, OTOH, perform amazingly well with their stock caps and other parts. Well preserved examples require minimal work to become reliable.

However, many units have fallen into the hands of hack "techs" that butcher them. Often replacing parts wholesale which is a shame.

You also have equipment that has been stored in less than ideal conditions causing deterioration of caps and such.

I have devised methods to restore these to stock condition.

How much do you tilt your vandy's, I mine is tilted halfway on the adjuster.

Oooh, that's one clean rack. I was at the tech yesterday getting an estimate on my Mac, someone had brought in an 8B (with cage) and a 7 for a tune up perhaps. Both had their boxes.
