I've had GREAT success with my Hafler transnova amp.

So, I'm open to another pro audio amp for my listening pleasure.

Anyone had experience with the Crown CE1000?

Puts out 275 @ 8 ohms.

Input will be appreciated.

No, but a friend of mine have the Behringer A500 and it's a great power amp. It is considered as a clone of the QSC RMX 1450. In fact some guys saya that's not a clone but EXACTLY the same amplifier (even same numbers on the PCB's).
Just a thought...

With a toroid, I bet it sounds decently good. Caps mounted to the PCB and so near the outputs are cheap shortcuts. Hopefully it doesn't run hot.

Are torroidal transformers superior in sound quality? Please expand on this. I'm quite interested to pick your brain.

I had been under the assumption it was a cost cutting measure to use this design, and it performed equal, but not better- the benefit was slightly lighter weight and lower cost.

I appreciate the comment but there isn't much stuff between my ears to pick. Great question on toroid vs. standard transformers. I will have to revisit this topic with my tech next time I see him. From what I remember, toroids have a lower noise floor somehow related to the circular windings. They are more expensive to make and are typically found in high-end amps and even CD players. Interestingly, toroidal driven amps seem to have a softer, more cultured sound while the regular tranny amps are harder hitting. I also think that regular transformers have greater power potential and somehow help the amp to run cooler. A few toroidal equipped amps I've seen like the Nakamichi PA-7 and a new dual toriod NAD amp (forgot the model number) run super hot. Anyways, my comments are based on my experience.

My Hafler does run hot.
I've thought about installing a fan, but they are obviously made to run hot.
I did learn not to put a CD on it, even when it's off, because eventually you will turn it on, and the emulsion carrying the sound trax might sort of lift off....
