There's a new thrift store in town that has a bunch of old CurtisMathes stuff, including an HA-250 integrated amp. Some guy was looking at it, but seemed to lose interest. It was heavy enough to be high powered, but I can't find much online about their audio gear. Like most of us, I think of CurtisMathes as a high-end TV maker, long gone. They also had a direct-drive CM TT, which I may buy for 2 bux just for the Audio-Technica cart. Anybody have any CM gear that puts out high sound quality?

dunno but if the price is right ....

JC Penney put out a decent receiver once, Curtis Mathes could have put out some good stuff too.

I am waiting for emaidel to chime in, he probably worked there a few years back

They want 2 or 3 bux for each item. I tend to agree with Scott: CM probably made some good stuff. I can't imagine they were bringing in the high-end TV buyer, then foisting off a whole load of audio crap on him.
Then again, even if I could get the TT, receiver and Yamaha CD player for 7 bux, I don't have room for any more junk.
It's just so much fun to play with the stuff, and hook it up just to see how it works, and if one piece works well, I can merge it into the systems I'm going to sell, or give it to my son.

I went ahead and snagged em. Once I expressed interest the lady there put the hard sell on me. The guy, younger than the lady, had -*test*-('")ed them, and was shocked at the price, so maybe I got a decent deal. I'm figuring $10 for the integrated amp (50wpc at 4 or 8 ohms), cd player, TT and tuner is a good price, even if I just give them to my son or donate them to another worthwhile recipient. I will start by hooking the whole system together just for grins. If I get electrocuted, I will know it was a lousy deal. Short of that, can't really lose...
