hifi_nut suggested that I give a description of my system here... since i'm still a newbie to Sound Thinking.. i thought it was a great idea.
My 2 ch only rig is what i tend to spend the most time listening and tweaking usually.
If you look in my user profile... you'll see a pic of me standing between two large Polk Audio SDA SRS.
Polk Audio SDA SRS I provided the link to the Polk Audio web site, it does a much better job of explaining these speakers than I ever could.

I acquired these large flooring standing speakers a little over a year ago. Found them in Portland, OR. A fellow Polkie was looking to sell them. I had to rent a full size van to transport them. (each weighs 190lbs).
In the time i've had the SDA SRS's, i've upgraded all 8 tweeters. Polk no longer carried the tweeters as seen in the picture. It's a good thing... they can be harsh and very fatiguing to your ears after a while. The silk replacements that i have now are not fatiguing to listen to for extened periods of time.
The SDA's use a SDA cable that connects the two speakers to each other.. along with the usual speaker wires. That cables brings info from the left speaker over the SDA drivers in the opposite speaker.. and vice versa.. giving a open almost "surround" effect.. There are many different versions of SDA"s produced over the years. These are the original 1985 model and are not as sought after as the last version produced in around 1990.
Anyway... these speakers are pushed by a NAD amp running 300 wpc @ 4ohm. I once ran them with as little as 45wpc from my Yamaha CA-610 II, and that little Yammie did just fine.. although a good powerful non common ground amp is best.
The amp is hooked up to a Kenwood Basic C2 pre amp, i got for free

also a Kenwood tuner and a NAD 5340 CDP. The NAD CDP is output via coax to a California Audio Labs Alpha tube DAC.
All cables and wires are local to me. Raymond Cable interconnects, and Cobalt Cable speaker cables.
The next thing is to upgrade the crossovers in the SDA's. Something that is beyond what I could do on my own.. so a friend will end up doing it for me.
*although the picture in my profile is an older one.. I had one of the 15" passive radiators hand signed by Matthew Polk, himself.
