Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202

A good basic device for hooking up a computer to a stereo without the use of a mini-jack, here's a budget ($29,00 ) solution from Behringer:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx

Features:

Ultra-flexible USB audio interface that connects your instruments, mixer, etc. with your computer for recording and playback

High-resolution 48 kHz A/D and D/A converters for high-end audio quality

Works with your PC or Mac computer – no setup or drivers required.

XT Software energyXT2 Compact BEHRINGER Edition available as free download from www.behringer.com

Free Kristal recording software and Audacity editing software downloadable at www.behringer.com

Stereo headphone output with dedicated level control lets you monitor both input and output

Additional S/PDIF optical output for direct digital conversion

NOTE: Like a friend of mine use to say - Cost has nothing to do with good, or bad, science. Cost is a marketing decision.

Anybody has recommandations of higher quality stereo interfaces / external sound cards capable of minimum 24 Bit / 96 kHz?

Thx.

I was thinking more like this:
http://www.rme-audio.com/english/firewire/ff800.htm

However, I am looking for units working with 32 bit wordlength.

Is that at all in existence?
I know stand alone HD recorders functioning at 32/192.
I used one myself sometimes.
But interfaces?

The pro-audio/studio gear is also a solution, and the RME stuff are very good, i know it because a friend of mine has a home studio and he uses the : RME-Fireface 400 also in that category you can find good stuff like:

Roland FA-101

or

M-Audio FireWire 410

or....the mother of all dac's, with 32/192 KHz:

Berkeley Alpha DAC

In this case 32/192 is only referring to sampling frequency and the bitrate is still down to 24.

When I am asking for 32/192 it's in the meaning of 32 bit/192 kHz.

But thanks for the links.

I have four audio interfaces here, an M-Audio Firewire 410, an M-Audio Delta 1010LT, a Hoontech STA ADC-DAC 2000 and an IK Multimedia Stealthplug.

The Stealthplug is a good little interface and very portable but it is USB. Simple though - 1/4" phono one end, USB the other end and it just "works". It's pretty quiet and provides single channel ADC and DAC.

The Firewire 410 is definitely my favourite! Portable 4 in - 10 out interface, two mic pre-amps and it has those NuTrick XLR/phono connectors. It has become my primary interface in the studio as I tend to just use the laptop for all of my work now and it's portable, happily running of the power supplied via the firewire port on the laptop.

The STA and the 1010LT are both PCI solutions, the STA with a nice 19" breakout box and the 1010LT with flyleads that I have running via a multicore to a Fostex line amp in my rack.

I am thinking of selling both the STA and the 1010LT at the moment as I just don't use them now, nor do I use the PowerMac G4 dual 866 they are mounted in. I dont have to mic up a set of drums so the four inputs on the 410 are sufficient for any work I do now days.

So, they are all 24/96 ADCs but as I say, the 410 is portable and the Stealthplug is physically a "cable with a lump one end" and can be left in a guitar case.

Anyone interested in buying the 1010LT or the STA can drop me a line. I'm on the verge of sticking both on eBay to help fund the Thorens repair.
