Oh, I must add that this was a TOTL unit designed for the demanding japanese domestic market. Those are the only units featured on K-nisi's Japanese webpage.
It would easily cost $10,000 if made today!

wow! i knew i was getting a good deal, but i had no idea.
Yep, this was 270,000 yen back in the day. Lot's of money. I'm doing some research on historic exchange rates to have a figure in dollars, adjusted for inflation.
The unit cost 270,000 yen in 1983.
According to the official exchange rate data I found on the web (approx 235 yen per dollar), this was around $1150.
I had initially though this unit was from the late 1970s, when the Yen was much stronger.
By 1983 it had weakened considerably, making this a bargain for US consumers.
According to the inflation calculator this is around $2300 today. However, given the rising prices of high-end equipment nowadays, $5K to $6K doesn't sound unreasonable at all.
I'm glad to hook you up with the B-2x Scott. It's a good match with the Luxman on the AR9's.
Way to go, Scott.
Mark´s great gesture should be an example for us all.
I can´t wait to see what you´ll come up with for a pre.

Great score!
The NAD units are superb for the money.
I had their older 1020 and it was excellent, specially the phono stage.
thats good to hear as i didnt do any research on this unit, i bought it based on reputation and what similar units have been selling for.

Yeah, you made a good choice. Can't go wrong with NAD, specially those from this time period when the brand was at its peak.
It's a good idea to spray some Deoxit to the controls before you start using it regularly.
Nice as the NAD is, you ought to make an A/B comparison against your recently acquired Haffler. Those Hafflers weren´t that bad in those days.
Jorge
Scott,
Your taste is impeccable! Great re-amp!
I had missed out on a few 1020 pre-amps myself- one a friend had and was trading off- missed it by minutes. I've since then aquired a Philips and a Sansui, but really like what I've heard regarding the NAD pre-amps.
And that Hafler- another good one.
Very nice indeed. Your system is on a major upswing!
