Take Kelly's advice and get a heat gun. I recommend picking up a desoldering bulb.

ok,
ordered the heat gun and handy hands thing. the shrink wrap they have is assorted, i would want some 3-1 shrink ratio in 1" width. Larry do you have any of that?

Let me check the specs...................

By the way 1" width, or 1" dia.?

just ran across this page for DIY IC wiring. http://www.rane.com/note110.html

Homegrown Audio is where I bought the wire. They have DIY instructions for building IC's.

Any progress on the IC's Scott?

in addition to the silver wire you provided, i got a 25ft spool of cotton insulated 28ga silver wire: http://www.vhaudio.com/wire.html#vhcotton

i'll be making 7 more pairs with the silver wire and 12 pairs using all copper. the last of the supplies arrived yesterday and i'll start a production line tonight. i fully expect the silver IC's to be superior to the copper, and if that is indeed the case, i'll be using three of the silver pair in my main rig and those that are for use elsewhere will be copper. of the extra silver, i was planning on sending you a couple of pairs, the rest maybe send them out for demo.

That's nice wire, and for an excellent price. Are you using the Radio Shack gold-plated RCA's for all of the IC's?

no, those are $4 a pair, i found some gold plated Neutrik plugs, that i think are just as good if not better, for $1.10 each at PartsExpress.

took me about an hour-and-a-half to do one pair. i'm taking my time and fine tuning the assembly process as i go. by the time i installed the last plug i think i figured out the best way to do these. they turned out well (i think), will -*test*-('") them tomorrow.

just finished two more pairs, its going much faster now. the boy has the camera, and he wont get home til tonight. i've streamlined the assembly process and pretty much eliminated the potential for doing things out of sequence. i'll post those pic's tomorrow.

so far i've finished four pairs. the one i did last night sounds indistinguishable from the first one i did last week, which is good since those were a slight improvement over the Kimber PBJ's and Magwire IC's that i was using. now my main rig has all DIY silver IC's so, over the next several days, i'll have to do some critical listening with them and the Kimbers/Magwire's.

Sounds good Scott! Looking forward to some pics.
