Saw some speakers at a yard sale as it was being shut down so I stopped for a look. Had Dynaco badges. Asked how much and the lady went to get her husband. Said I could take them. biggrin.gif No model#. Pulled a woofer and found no marks. Small horn tweeter. Also got a box of 200 cassette used tapes about 25 are pre-recorded.

looks like a Frankenspeaker.

It's puzzling. The cassette tapes they gave me are very good quality and mostly type II's with a couple metal ones. If they spent that on tapes one would think they made informed choices.

Look at what a friend just bought two days ago, for $100

Dingus, why, why, why did you get those speakers.

Only $100?!?!?! I paid WAY more for my DiVinci setup!!!!!! soundt/lolnuts.gif

(just kidding wink.gif )

ya, he talked them down from $1995.00 to $100. I always believe that when a deal it too good to be true, it usually is a scam.

Well if these are white van I may have to change some opinions and pick up some DaVincis rolleyes.gif. . The person that gave me these said they sounded real nice and it seemed as if he was somewhat into audio. He didn't say why they were in the yard sale though he did think they were KLHs. Hooked them up to test a Marantz 1200 amp and Marantz 10B tuner as well as to give these a test. Well, once everything warmed up I was quite amazed by the sound. No buzzing, muddiness, squawking, scraping, nothing. Just clean well defined music. Ran the tone controls flat and off only. Put the 1200 to the eleven o'clock position (hey, it's late) and listened to the tuner and cdp for an hour. The highs were crisp and clean and, though sitting on carpet, the lows were well defined. I didn't notice any holes in the sound but that's the novice talking. Shoot, I still need to have someone show me what "roll-off" and other terms sound like. It seems to me that these speakers my be able to handle a bit more power than one would imagine. Since the 1200 is presently somewhat questionable as to sound quality I need to audition these with something else.

from what I have read about white van speakers HERE they can blow amps with poor quality. I wouldnt use any amp that I am fond of just on the off chance there was a quality control issue and the speaks ruin your amp. just my two pence.

they arent white vans, but they dont look like any Dynaco speaker that i've ever seen. they look more like they were cobbled together out of a variety of spare drivers.

For a very brief while (early 80's) ESS owned the Dynaco brand and manufactured 3-way speakers under the "Dynaco" brand. I don't recall that any used a horn tweeter, nor a semi-transluscent woofer cone, but at least one of the company's engineers told me that the Dynaco speakers were the flattest speakers the company had ever made.

Could be some truth to that as I have also heard the same about ESS and Cannon speakers. I have a set of Cannons. They also have a horn tweeter but much better build and quality.
