That's a nice system Elroy!

Your speakers could afford better placement though...

The key here is to experiment.

Vandies like to be placed out in the room, as further away from room boundaries as possible.

They also have a ideal "listening window" which will depend on the speaker tilt and height of the sweet spot.

I have mine in a small room, so it was a challenge to get them right. No placement is perfect, but at least I was able to lessen some troublesome standing waves. In this sense, the Vandy 2W subwoofer is ideal. It frees the main speakers from reproducing the deep bass, so corner standing waves are reduced. It also gives you better midrange performance.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this is precisely what Mr. Vandersteen recommends in his Q&A section (www.vandersteen.com)

couldnt get this next one to lighten up, but I got the capt's chair right in the middle, the only drawback is the couch on the left might hinder the sound a little, but fur serious listening, I can move the couch back away from the speaker.

That setup looks a lot better. Your NAD sure looks familiar, must've been one of my old pair. So does the coffee table for that matter, but as I can see mine in the living room, you must just have a duplicate. smile.gif

the coffee table is 25+ years old. Dingus would know if they were similar, but he dont pay attention to those types of details. now if I have a new krell or old sx1250 he would notice.

I lightened up your pic some.

Elroy- 10-15-2006
thank you, I tried to lighten it up, well not real hard, was just excited that I was able to make the furniture move and not have to move it back to original. I guess I thought that if its posted then its in cement so to speak.

Your welcome.
What kind of a view do you have out that window? Seems like it might be really nice.

Very nice looking setup you have Elroy. If Scott compares it favorably to his 9's then it must sound really good smile.gif

Mt Ranier is outside, but at an angle, I know I get taxed extra for that view. but it is very nice.

Scott & I went over to Elroy's house yesterday and spent a nice late afternoon / early evening listening to his system. It sounds great! The Vandy 2ci's will fool you if you think their modest size will limit their bass. Nope - they've got plenty of low end. I'd be happy with them as my main speakers. As for looks (ok, I'm shallow) Elroy's system is really elegant. Very high WAF. The system is set up in a dedicated listening room, which is very well suited to the system. It's gotta be nice to have a big house that will accomodate such amenities.

Really enjoyed the visit Elroy - you're welcome at my place anytime!

Thanks mark, it was great having you over, glad you and scott made the trip, I'm also glad I told my wife to stay away for a couple hours.

I do hope to make it down south on one of those trips that scott takes.

we listened to a plethora of different styles of music. To try to show some of the range of the vandy's. It wasnt really planned, it just happened that way.
