Stumbled into an Olde Cluttered Shoppe filled with vintage stuff this past weekend. Among the items I might be able to use:
Dynaco PAT-4 preamp
Dynaco SCA-800
KLH 57 receiver or integrated amp (can't remember)
Dynakit 70
Harmon-Kardon Citation III
Citation II
Hitachi SR-8010

Are any of these components "can't miss"?
Any price range info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
dennis

Dennis,

I wouldn´t miss the Citations. But then that´s only me. wink.gif

The Dynakit 70 is an excellent base for mods and tweaks. Literally dozens of them available all over the net.

As for price ranges, I don´t want to mislead you, as here in Europe we have to pay a lot more if we want those goodies. biggrin.gif

Thanks, Jorge. The Citations certainly were the most intriguing items.
When you say you "wouldn't miss the Citations," do you mean you
wouldn't miss out on buying them?
Unfortunately, the eccentric fellow who runs the place related to me
how any of the old tube stuff is very desirable these days.
He doesn't put prices on anything because he makes a dandy
living on repairs, and is emotionally attached to the stuff.
I will probably stop in one of these weekends and work on him a bit.
He said he wanted $100 for the PAT-4, which sounded reasonable, but
not exactly a real bargain.

if the dynakit70 was mint and under $150, I'd be on it like white on rice! Now the Citation II is a classic, if mint and under $400, she'd be mine!! soundt/afro.gif

when i dont know what a piece is worth, i see if there have been any of the same sold on the bay, and what they went for. not the best way to determine worth, but it does give a sense of what they are selling for.

I believe Bolly has answered your questions. If anyone knows about market value on that side of the Big Pond, that is him. wink.gif

As for the Citation II, it really is a classic, whose value can only go up with the passing of time. Don´t let that shop owner hear me, though. smile.gif

I'm with Dingus oon this one, the best information availible as to actual reals vale is to run a completed auctions qurey on eBay. Those are prices people have actually paid for items.

The other side is as Bolly is stating , sometime a piece is a sleeper that the market has not yet put a value to, and you want to know the musical value of the piece, this is harder to find out and then is it the same musical opinion that you would arrive at.

And now back to my Margarita which is already in progress.

The guy seems to be savvy, but I'll try to schmooze him and see what kind of number he might accept. I think I'll go for the gusto and see what he will do on the Citation, or the other Citation. He's a repair guy, so I could go ahead and see what he'll charge as is, and what he wants for going thru it.

The Dynakit 70 is a second option.

Maybe he'll like me. Oh, wait, I'm me. Perhaps there's a better strategy...

I've always heard good things about Citations.

But all that kit sounds interesting.

Keep us posted...

here's a nice example of Citation II, probably top $1250 I would think;

US $1,125.00 (Approximately C $1,205.10) I was close drbongo! soundt/afro.gif
Any news on your Citation II deal?

doctorbongo- 06-27-2007
You were REALLY close, Bolly.

I planned to go back and see how you fared on your estimate.

I'll wander back over there (it's in PuebloCO, about 40 miles away)
and see what he has to say. As I said, he's savvy, so it will be
amusing to wander around saying, "how much you want for THAT one?"

er, I mean, "how much you want for that ugly ol' thing?
Rusty brown! How gauche."

Dennis,

Leave the PAT-4 alone, for whatever price. One of HK´s worst early efforts with transistorised gear. I understand it has some nice features, but word of mouth is, that´s about it.

The Citation III Tube tuner is a goodie. Read some more about it here:

There´s one for sale here in Europe, The Netherlands, to be more precise with a BIN price of € 495,00 - US $665,00 blink.gif
