Has anyone tried the snap on ferrite core chokes on any of there equipment?

I use them all around. Inside cdp, computer and amps and also in some ic's and power cables.

three in a row on the TT power cable, and one each, around the power cables of both my CDP and cassette deck...

dingus- 03-01-2009
what do they do?

in my opinion you wont hear a bit of difference.

High freq noises and EMF in electric current are dificult to hear, but they are there and can interfere with other electronic chips and devices with high freq and EMF sensitivity. IMHO, everything matters in an audio chain.

You know I wouldn't argue with you. But there is a lot of hocus pocus out there. That is up to par with a snake oil salesman. Just after the almighty dollar.

i must've been thinking of something else, i know what those are ...

never tried them, but i think they can be useful under the right conditions.

I didn't said that ferrite chokes are THE solution for filtering a current line or an audio signal path but imho it helps filtering. Remember that if you don't have an independent electric circuit from the main electric board to your audio devices the other appliaces components puts interference noise onto the AC power wiring, hence every other component in the system will be effected. Adding to ferrite chokes your audio units must have a good filtered and stable power supply and also a good dc input filtering, a good ground wire etc etc....

The ferrite chokes on it self doesn't prevent nothing...well, maybe a little filtering.
I have three independent electric circuits for my audio gear. One for analog, other for digital and another for computer and i tell you i can feel and listen with a lot more clarity and dynamics than before.
A good power cable is also an electric current filter, the same with some interconnects.
Even in my line of work - air conditioning - every electronic board in all kind of units have ferrite chokes.
Imho, in this digital age filtering electric current and the interference of magnectic fields are a major importance. There's so much trash not only in current lines but a lot of prejudice freqs and magneic fields across the air, that every little thing helps. smile.gif

Just my thoughts.

I have to believe that yes when used in the correct situation that these would be a benefit, I don't know that you would hear the difference as much as it might protect some delicate equipment. I also suspect that they would help more in video reproduction. I remember reading on another forum about Monsters power conditioner, most didn't notice any improvement in the audio but did notice improvement in video.

I agree with Clint e that one of the best things you can do is provide a seperate ciruit for your equipment. The average consumer is not going to do this so I believe the manufacturers beleive they are improving their product by filtering the power.

How many times a a child did you "miss" part of a show do to a mixer or other appliance being used and the TV went haywire?

This is not a very good reason to believe this but, being in manufacturing no company will spend money to put something on that is not needed, they will figure a way to not use a screw when something cheaper can be used, it is not profitable to use things that are not needed. They will research extensively making use that what they are using is what is needed and no more. This being said look on the back of any newer TV, the back of your monitor, heck even my card reader has one on it. They wouldn't be there if these companies didn't think they were getting some benefit.

Just my two cents.
