I'll start off with a disclaimer that NONE of the music I post in this thread (or any other) are covered by any sort of copyright prohibiting such sharing or linking. I do NOT condone, encourage or partake in "illegal downloading" of protected media!

I'll start off with a couple of very nice jazz recordings (the first a bit higher quality than the second) of the Jazz Mafia live at now defunct 12 Galaxies bar and venue on Mission Street in San Fransisco, California. Both are excellent recordings, done about as professionally as you can without actually hiring a professional.

I thoroughly recommend the .flac versions of the tracks (VBR MP3 and OGG also available as well as streams)... a bit longer to download but as they preserve the highest quality of the original .wav recordings they are very well worth it! To the best of my knowledge the following links are the ONLY place to get these particular recordings... you can't buy them on cd or vinyl, you won't find them on iTunes.

Low End Theory by Jazz Mafia 05-16-2006 @ archive.org

Enjoy!

The Woodsmen

Might have posted this one before somewhere but what the heck...

Website of a VERY prolific band, also from San Fransisco I think. They've switched members on and off over the years and have played a lot live down there. Their music is, bluesy pop with a few tracks featuring great brass, maybe comparable to Dave Mathews band on some songs and... I'm not sure on the others! Don't like or hate them over one listen! Lots of pebbles on that page but there are a few real diamonds too wink.gif

I was ripping a few new CDs to .flac tonight when I thought to check for a new update to my favorite encoder. In the process of searching out said updates I made the mistake of getting immersed in their news column on the front page ( http://flac.sourceforge.net/ ) and thus stumbled into a "beta test" of a new online store called HDtracks which, I think, is aiming at becoming a sort of iTunes for audiophiles.

You can read much more about their aims and philosophy at their page: http://www.hdtracks.com/index.php

Why I'm posting here is that they offer a free disc download when you sign up for a free account. It's called "HOT TONES In High Definition " and is brought to you by Gibson guitars. soundt/guitarra.gif It's advertised as "Hear the world's best guitarists (with full info on what they did and how!)" and is available in Apple's .aiff format, .flac, and 320kbs .mp3. You also get a 20% discount on your first order! Seems like a nice promotion and so far the tracks I've heard from the album are top notch; a blend of blues, jazz, and maybe some pop. Will probably end up being one of my test cds!

Great, free music, and better yet, as an introduction to a unique music service.

THANK YOU!

Floyd is probably my favorite band of all time and even though I've considered myself a "complete-ist" for years there are many tracks in this collection I've never even heard OF much less actually heard. You've made me a very happy Floydian smile.gif
