with a reserve of $6700 no less. it is an unused unit, even so thats quite steep.

I would question the "new" aspect from an estate sale. I'd like a little more history to substantiate the claim. That being said, taking it out of the box removes a lot of the "new" in my humble opinion. Aside from that, once it's plugged in and turned on, it is no different that any other unit - just a little less time.

Gee, I hate to be so negative. Oh well!

Another concern is that caps when left idle is harder on them than being used, it could have either dried or leaking capacitors in it.

Wow. $7101. I know this is a rare item, but I just can't see how you could justify spending that kind of money. (Unless you have serious disposable income)

I'd think you could put together a really, really nice system for 7K...

You could.

For half of that you could get these three:

I've had the pleasure of hearing LBPete's G33K and it is as powerful as it looks. Without trying, the G33K was bottoming out the woofers on his ADS. The thing is massive and literally weighs a ton. It cannot be moved by mere mortals and finding furniture strong enough to handle the tonnage and size is a problem. Agreed, after you get over the looks and the DUAL toroidal power supply, the G33K is just another stereo and not the best sounding at that. At low volumes, it wasn't as musical as a G-9000 or a G-9090DB.

$7K is a lot of money for what is essentially an un-*test*-('")ed unit of unknown condition. From the description:

I have been advised...that original power up should take place on a Vari-AC to watch for excessive current draw and to reform power supply caps. The responsibility of which will reside with the new owner.

This unit is not represented as working! Hope the buyer knows what he is doing. BTW, wrapping the unit in plastic is an old swap meet trick. It "adds value" by making the unit look like it has been cared for.

I thought the original selling price of $4K was quite high. But $7K?, we're talking big bucks here! I didnt check the auction bidding results, but it wouldnt surprise me if the buyer was determined to have it, and perhaps placed a hidden snipe-bid. In other words, if someone else had bid higher, the guy who won mightve paid even more for it, maybe even $10K.

I wouldnt mind owning a G33K, but way outta my price range smile.gif However, I dont think it can surpass the BA-5000, my #1 favorite Sansui amplifier.

The BA-5000 and CA-3000 are on my "I've been good" wish list. Someday....

You are very lucky to have one.

BeatleFred- 09-22-2007
Actually, I have 3 of them smile.gif

dingus- 09-22-2007
isnt that hitting below the belt?

Sam,

don't discount the CA-2000 on your quest. almost 100% the performance for a fraction of the cost.

Maybe not the holy grail as the 3000, nonetheless a killer pre.

I own a 2000, and it's so good, the 3000 isn't even a vague consideration for me, unless it was the same price, or less, and it wasn't a hassle to get back home.

and even then, it'd only be out of capitalization I'd grab it- to flip, of course, and keep in the hi-fi kitty...

Of course, my opinion only.
