I'd love to get in on this. It will be interesting to get my wife's input too. She has good ears.

It is actually suprising us a bit the feedback we are getting about the girls joining in much more for a good listen to tubes. Works for me : cool.gif

got the B-283 safe and sound, listening to it right now with the Kenwood DV-4070 via analog output and it sounds very nice. in comparison to the Wadia WT3200/EAD DSP 1000 combo, its got less gain, but when i switch and adjust the volume and its very comparable right out of the box. gonna just listen to it for several days and then do an in depth critique.

Levell adjustment is essential when comparing equipment. Just one or two dbs louder ususally sounds better.

ok, i've had a week with the B-283 in my main rig and i've enjoyed it quite a bit.

i've had it paired with a Kenwood DV-4070 dvd player (used exclusively for cd playback) with excellent results. the Kenwood by itself sounds a bit thin overall and is lacking in the low end. in comparison, the Kenwood with the B-283 is a whole different world. the sound is rich and full, much more open, and definitely more smooth. despite the Kenwood, the low end does not suffer (which surprised me quite a bit), its taut, well defined with plenty of presence. dynamics are very good, impact and delicacy are presented equally well without one suffering at the expense of the other. sound stage is much more open and defined, which in turn improves clarity and detail. it really smooths out those digital edges that can be so troublesome with cd's and the overall presentation carries just a bit of tube lushness that i find very appealing.

i let my daughter hear it in her bedroom system today (Yamaha CR-2020, budget Toshiba dvd player, AR91's) and she wants to keep it. as soon as she heard it she sat upright and simply said "wow!". the improvement in this systems was even more dramatic than what i heard with the Kenwood player in my main rig.

i can point to every aspect of the sound and note a marked improvement with the B-283. for anyone on a budget looking for a way to improve their sound, this component will do it. at this price point it also deserves serious consideration as an alternative to a standalone DAC. for me the B-283 is a winner, i'll take one please.

You mean to tell us Alvaro was right all along? ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

Alvaro, can I borrow yours for a week? If not the Yaqin, the Musical Fidelity will do too.

For the benefit of the electronically challenged such as myself, might I ask a simple question?

Right now I have an El Crappo CD changer plugged into my Sansui AU 717 (or 719, whichever). If I buy one of those things, I should (subjective, I know) be able to hear an improvement? Likewise with a turntable, tuner, etc?

i didnt say anything about it, just hooked it up and turned it on. first she said "wow", then she said, "it sounds so smooth and sweet!" somewhere in there she used the term "cohesive" as well. this week her system will also be getting a dedicated pre in the way of a Hafler DH-110, so she'll be enjoying some major upgrades.

You can patch the B-283 in your tape monitor loop to process the TT and Tuner, actually you are processing your amp and you may or may not like the effect, the tuner may be warmed up too much and I have never personally tried the B-283 with a turntable, mainly because our P-307 phono/aux pre-amp does a really nice job. All to date have liked the results on ElCheopo CD/DVD players.

Why don't you sign up for the -*test*-('")? It may take a month though as there are two ahead of you and I have to ship another out.
