... Dingus's daughter didn't want to give it up smile.gif Which is really cool.

i didnt say anything about it, just hooked it up and turned it on. first she said "wow", then she said, "it sounds so smooth and sweet!" somewhere in there she used the term "cohesive" as well. this week her system will also be getting a dedicated pre in the way of a Hafler DH-110, so she'll be enjoying some major upgrades.

Nice smile.gif

btw, a few have rolled the tubes with GE JAN 5654W ($5 ea. on ebay) and say it is even better (including clint e. here). I have ordered some in to try. Note that the B-283 is designed to the 6J1's character, but I'm always game to try.

Okay, I'm intrigued....

How can I sign up?

I'll give it my full write-up treatment.

No rush- it's just about the holiday season, and things are getting a bit busy.

One question- any possible way I can stretch it to a two-week demo? Onlky because of my wheelchair/mobility problems.

Hell, I've been waiting 10 days for someone to swap a ceiling lightbulb for me, for Pete's sake!

Hi,

PM me your address and Phone # and your on the list. 2 weeks is fine with me. Where are you?, no one to change a light bulb?, there should be a joke for that, but it's not funny !!!

Thanks,
Ian

Another dummy question:

I want to buy a laptop to load all of my doo-wop mp3's on (1700 or so) to be able to plug into my Sansui system. Would this gizmo "help", and more importantly, would it work?

(You notice I'm trying to talk myself into buying one!)

dingus- 11-21-2007
it wont facilitate the process of converting your music to disk, but it will make the mp3's sound better ...

itlldue- 11-21-2007
I have them all on disc already. I just want a laptop for a "portable" copy of my music, but a little "finesse" when it's hooked up at home.

Hey ittldue,

when I was young my knickname was 'stupid', can I call myself old and wise now? All the woman in my life still call me stupid smile.gif

To make your laptop sound better, you would likely be better off grabbing a nice SB Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card (less than $100). That will give you more bang for the buck and then you can add the B-283 for improving a much better source. That said the B-283 seems to always find a use.

BTW don't you think MP3's days are numbered?. 160 GB iPods @ 50 MB/song = 3200 5 minute songs of 16 bit, 44k uncompressed 2 channel audio. I'd give MP3 another 3 years before it goes the way of the 8-track and cassette (not that I don't have cassettes all over including the car). Like to see a thread on that one.

I live by the muliple of 16 theory, hit 32, go back to 16, hit 48 go back to 16, so I'm currently 19 smile.gif. Of course the downside to this is you make the same mistakes over and over again, but the partying is fun soundt/action-smiley-035.gif (now is that bullsh.. or rockon) unsure.gif

When I'm 64.

its rock on, but theres nothing saying you cant use it however you want. i kind of like the BS idea ...

speakerman1- 11-23-2007
im listening to a henwood hafler set up and im going back to the proton amp to see if it calms down the bass on the proton. the proton rocks the speakers on the bass so lets see.

dingus- 11-23-2007
whats the sound like with the Kenwood\Hafler combo?

"Any" tube makes the sound a lot better, and with lots of "finesse", also. wink.gif

speakerman1- 11-24-2007
i havent got it yet the kenwood hafler is mellow right now w/o tubes. so im going to try it on the proton onkyo. and my different speakers. ill be objective in my review but i want to push it on hardest sounding equipment. i wish i had my hafler 500 to realy do a -*test*-('") i would enjoy. but i do like this proton because it makes you stand up and listen.
