I know where one of these is locally. Any opinions on sound quality from the DH-200 amplifier?

What color is it? How much? And pics. With a Hafler you can't go wrong. Especialy the older Haflers. I just bought a pre for my Phase and it opened up the sound. I would buy it if the right price and if it works.

I am running a DH 500 Pro as one of my main amps, the fan is a little loud but not noticeable once music is playing, I am looking into a replacement fan like the one I have on my Adcom.
I have another I use as my bench amp, 9105, and a P1500.
The Haflers that I have had are powerful well constructed amps, plenty of headroom for their rated power.

I just sent a message to the person I got the fan for my Adcom from, I will let you know if he has a direct replacement fan for these amps.

the only knock i've ever heard against any DH series Hafler amp is the fan noise on the big 500, and that can be overcome. other than that i am not aware of any complaints.

Hafler is not a high volume maker so the depth of production engineering isn't as good as say Yamaha. I had a Hafler preamp and it looked like a kit, which it may have been as they did sell them in kit form. The sound and design of the amps may be good but IMO, build may be spotty.

afaik the entire DH line of amps and pre's were available as kits.

Good amp, no fan on the 200, one of the first successful mosfet amps, well reviewed at the time.

Good news is there's no fan noise on the 200 as they are not fan equipped, like the 500.
No frills amp with plenty of power and headroom and good sound.
The only negatives are some were kit built so if the builder wasn't skilled there may be minor issues like cold solder joints- which should be easy enough to repair.
Some board parts on the DH 500 are rumored to be no longer available- unsure if this applies to the hafler 200s or not- but I'd not get too concerned with this unless you are sloppy or careless with your gear.

Kit build is a big MINUS. My speakers are too valuable to mess around with Haflers.

Most Haflers weren't kit built. Look on the back it will tell if it came from a kit.

within the context of not having a tech go over a piece first, i dont see much difference in taking on a kit built component and some other used factory unit with an unknown history. sometimes you wont know what you've got until you listen to it.
my kit built DH-101 pre is very clean and sweet sounding and i prefer it to my factory stock DH-110.

With a kit built, you are subject to many unknowns including zero quality control and the skill level of the builder. I'm not risking $1,000 let alone $100 speakers on a kit amp. You make your choices and I wish you good luck.

a used factory unit can present the unknown of abuse and neglect which can be just as damaging.

I have a Rotel reciever in my garage I haven't hooked to anything I just turned it on. My CVs only cost 15.00 for the pair and I am afraid of it. But it is a Rotel!
