Check out my new to me Harman Kardon A300 and T300X tuner. Not a major score but the amps works fairly well. Don't know about the tuner yet. These are true separates that are stacked securely with metal braces. The A300 has variable Stereo to Mono control and the Volume is called Loudness! Anyways, good tube fun for $25!

My set hums a little on startup but quickly settles down. I'm sure it could use a restore like that guy did.

Sweet. Manuals may still be available on the H/K website. I have an A700 that had no online manual, and when I asked where I might find one they sent me a hard copy. Even apologised for a few stray pencil notes on the original.

Well, there is the A500 and now an A700. Looks like I got the runt of the litter!

Nice amp and tuner ya got there! The video was very entertaining, poor kitty's LOL! Bonus, you have all the knobs intact, for some reason, alot of H/K gear I've seen, some are missing!

can you actually safely power up gear of that vintage without an overhaul?

The hum is posiblt a tube going bad.

Good question. The right way to do it is with a VARIAC. The unscientific way (my way) is to use a surge protector, crappy CDP, and crappy speakers.

It should also be noted that dangerous voltages lurk in all tube gear, know what you're doing before repairing one. Even the experienced get caught out every once in a while (I could have sworn my left hand was in my pocket when my right hand touched the chassis with the screwdriver)
