Hi,

I have been asking for advice on speakers from ST members with a view to buying some based on their advice.

Anyway I may have stumbled on the speakers for me, they are an old model, but their spec looks ok.

These are the ones,

http://www.kef.com/history/1980/model104_2.asp

This link shows you Ebay UK prices for recent models sold, not to pricey either!!

As I have stated earlier I prefer to buy 'used hifi', although there is only food that I don't buy 'used, most everything else I buy is!!!!!!!!!

Good hunting,

willie

PS, Have just found this link for Ebay USA,

KEF is a nice speaker.

dingus- 09-05-2009
those are supposed to be very nice indeed. i've wanted to hear something from that line of KEF's forever, but have yet to have the chance.

Kef are great speakers, but it all as to do with the type of amp you're thinking of. wink.gif
If you choose a valve amp maybe some of those are a better match:

That´s a fine choice indeed. soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

I owned a pair of those in the early 90´s. Great speakers that demand high quality and powerful amps to control them.

Initially I drove them with a musical Fidelity P-140 power amp. Nice 70 watt / channel warm sounding amp, but not nearly powerful enough for them. Bass was all over the place, boomy as hell.

I then got a pair of Denon POA-6600 250 watts monoblocks and the speakers really shone.

My pair were problably an early model wich didn´t allow for bi-amping. I understand later models were fitted with split crossovers and two sets of terminals allowing for bi-wiring.

I run my tubes into a pair of epo 12.2 s. Bi-wired. Not biamped. I'm listening to them now. This little 2 way bookshelf will rock you back in your seat. See if you can find them used over there. You never see them used here.

KEF speakers are one of those brands with a great reputation and one that is deserved.

One of the more appreciated speaker brands discussed in the audiophile circles.

Good luck!

Hi,

Speakerman1,

Regarding these speakers, that you pointed out to me,

http://cgi.ebay.com/KEF-207-2_W0QQitemZ280...6QQcmdZViewItem

They are stunning, but I am $7,500.00 short, so any chance of a loan!! soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

Seriously your advice is welcome, I am now in a position to upgrade my speakers, but the local hifi shops around where I live are a bit up market & are not at all helpful.

So being able to listen to various speakers is extremely hard for me, hence me having to ask advice on ST.

But in reality you do need the speakers to be set up in your home listening room, as we know they will sound completely different to what they sound like in a hifi shop 'demo' room. soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

I am constantly scanning Ebay UK for any bargains, but I do rely on advice from ST members, as already stated, I have only just 'dipped' my toes back into this world of hifi after a long absense.

Thanks also for all the other ST members who have replied to this post soundt/thumbup.gif

Can you get access to some Epos to listen to. Have you ever seen them on Ebay?

Hi Speakerman1,

This is what is currently available for Epos speakers on Ebay UK,

What is it you like about these speakers!

My 'new' system now comprises of,

Tag Mclaren PA20R preamp

Harman Kardon PA2400 power amp

Esoteric SA-60 universal disc player.......................yet to be delivered

Marantz CD67 SE..................................................modded

Roksan Kandy KC-1..............................................yet to be modded

Myryad MT100 tuner

Ruark Templar speakers

So any new speakers would have to 'evolve' around these items & as I've said I haven't a clue!

Some of the above items have only come about via advice from ST members!!

As I type the system is playing Duffy's Rockferry album...............it's brilliant, but I think I do need better speakers soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

So keep it coming Speakerman1, I'm here to learn! soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

I run my tubes thru the 12s. They have good body and good definition. For such a little speaker they sound so big. They just amaze people. They tell me that sound can't come from that speaker. For the price they can't be beat. And they aren't built in China.

Hi,

A question for Speakerman1 & anyone else who knows about these.

What is your opinion of these speakers please.

all I know is that they are very well respected in some circles, I heard some bookshelf jamos a year ago, and they were sweet.

Jamo makes a good speaker. For that price I would buy them and have them shipped here.
