Almost all my stuff are older models except my tube Mac's and I bought those used.

Stick around and ask as many questions as you like, nothing is too basic.

Start delving into the depths of of this site and you will discover how we addicts feed. biggrin.gif

As to linking, after you start another post (or before if you can't open two windows or tabs) go back and open this one. At the top you'll see the http .... address bar. Copy and paste it into the new post. In fact when you make further references, such as the TAG site, get to the page you want and do the same then there is no need to do any additional search or entry. soundt/thumbup.gif

Glad to see you've jumped right in.

Hi,

I have just added another piece of hifi to my collection, it should arrive tomorrow.

I have managed to pick up a Tag Mclaren PA20R preamp, which will now replace my Nad 3140, which I have been using as a preamp.

Link for Tag specs

It always amazes me the feeling you get when you have found another link in your own hifi chain, I cannot think of any other 'hobby' that does this.................I use the word 'hobby' but to me it's a 'sickness' & incurable at that.

Will let you know if it makes any difference to my system asap.

PS just had a thought..........................................might need some new speakers now..............................& on & on we go!!!!

I wonder who made Tag McLaren. Luxman? Alpine?

Hi,

Socal Sam,

AG McLaren website (November 2000): TAG McLaren Audio was formed as part of the TAG McLaren Group, best known for its Formula One World Championship-winning motor racing team and for building the fastest production road car in the world.

Our expertise gained in the complex design and production of hi-performance electronics - developed in the most demanding environment of all, Formula One - has now been directly transferred into hi-performance hi-fidelity. The result is a range of high-end hi-fi components built to the most exacting standards and utilizing technology developed at the cutting edge of electronic design.

In the same way that Formula One demands cohesive teamwork, obsessive attention to detail and the very highest manufacturing standards, so too does the very best hi-fi. For this reason the same people who build our Formula One racing cars also build our hi-performance hi-fidelity components - using the same facilities, applying the same standards, using the same materials, using the same technology.

TAG McLaren, for the first time in history and uniquely in the world, brings the desirability and ease of ownership of a Formula One-derived product into the reality of your own home.

I hope these links will help explain Tag Mclaren a bit more

I believe Tag McLaren was born from the ashes of the famous Audiolab company, who produced such great icons as the 8000A integrated amp.

At the time Audiolab was already part of the IAG group, so it was a matter of applying some high-tech novel ideas and use the existing production facilities.

Jorge

P.S. - I just checked the last link supplied by Willie, and it seems I was right. Tag did buy Audiolab back in 1997.

Hi,

Just an update.

The Tag Mclaren PA20R preamp was delivered today, within 10 minutes it was installed & up & running.

The difference between my Nad 3140 & the Tag is unbelievable.

Now partnered with the Harman Kardon PA2400 power amp, so far they are getting on with each other.................. wink.gif

Would also welcome some more advice please. The Tag has a 'gain' control, could someone please tell me how I should use this, as a 'gain' control is new to me!

I can now see that moving up a notch or two with hifi equipment can make a difference.

Just a completely new 'take' on what I am listening too.

Have noticed that it puts a grin on your face though............. soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

Thanks,

willie
