Hi all:
Am an audio newbie who needs speakers for my older amp.
I can purchase Celestion Ditton 250's for $135.
Does anyone know anyhting abput these speakers?
Are they worth it?
Perhaps i should buy a p[air of used Advent Legacy's instead?
Your comments will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Imho, any Ditton from Celestion are great, and i think the price is ok.
You must wait a little till some mates who know more than me about speakers arrives. wink.gif

What amplifier are you using? What type of music do you listen to? These can make a difference as to speaker selection.

We have many members with varying tastes, the best thing to do is to have the chance to listen to what you are looking at, with your music selections and amplifier.

I'm probably far too late with this reply to help you make a decision, but the '250's are an excellent update of the original Ditton 33's.

You get the same basic sound (honest, neutral, natural and just a tad soft on dynamics) with a better midrange clarity and an extended HF response. They also image better in the near/mid field as the drivers are vertically aligned (the original 33's where supplied as staggered non-mirror imaged pairs).

Don't get me wrong, they were hardly leading edge even when new, but you could easily (oh, so very easily) do worse with other classic British designs.

The real 'sleeper' Celestion range of that era to watch for are the 'UL' series. The UL8's and 10's are a well-judged balance of the 'accurate' BBC tradition allied to more than a hint of the grunt of JBL's 'West Coast' sound. Delightful!
