I hope to have the whole rig set up in my son´s bedroom by next wednesday, including a roof mounted dipole antenna. By then I hope I´ll be able to post some final pics too.

The receiver is being serviced, basically getting a clean up and some new bulbs.

I still haven´t decided on what shelve system or table to use. I got a few readily available options.

The system is composed of:

Denon DP-37F TT, with Goldring Elektra MM cartridge.
Philips DVD 701 as DVD / CD player.
Sony STR-414L Receiver.
KEF Carina II speakers with DIY steel stands.

Excerpts from Kef´s website:
Frequency Range 55Hz to 20kHz +/-3dB at 2m on reference axis (-10dB at 45Hz and 30kHz)
Directional characteristics Within 2dB of response on reference axis. Up to 20kHz for +/-5° vertically. Up to 12kHz for +/-20° horizontally
Maximum Output 104dB spl on programme peaks under typical listening conditions
Characteristic Sensitivity Level 89dB spl at 1m on reference axis for pink noise input of 1W
Distortion
Measured at 1m on reference axis at mean spl of 90dB, anechoic conditions. Second harmonic: less than 1% from 70Hz to 20kHz. Third harmonic: less that 1% from 60Hz to 20kHz
Enclosure Type Closed box with third order low-frequency attenuation characteristic
Internal Volume 33 litres
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
Maximum Amplifier Power normal 80W,
audiophile 150W
Minimum Amplifier Power normal 10W
Maximum Conditions Sinusoidal Input 20V rms from 80Hz to 2.5kHz reducing to 12V rms above 4kHz
Weight 9.4kg (20.7lb)
Dimensions 600 x 300 x 249 mm
235/8 x 113/4 x 10 in

Gold-ens interconnect between CDP and Receiver( about the first audiophile interconnects to have come up on the market some 25 years ago and still much better than your average El-Cheapo alternatives ).
Eagle 4mm2 high purity copper speaker cable.

That's a great system, better than any I had until I moved out of the house and saved every spare penny. The son should enjoy that system for years to come. The Sony receiver looks in great shape. How many watts does it push?

It´s 45 watt / 8 ohms, which is plenty enough for the Carinas in a 13 sq/mt. room.

Jorge, I'm mightily impressed that receiver has Longwave and Shortwave bands on it! Will you be adding a suitable antenna for those bands as well as FM? (I hope?)
I sure hope your son appreciates this system... when I was very young, I didn't have anything even close to that.

Neither did I , Tom, although my parents owned a very nice sounding Nordmende tubed console, and later, in my mid teens my father got a separates Philips system, which launched me in the hobby untill this day.

My son enjoys my system a great deal, and I´m hoping this new system of his not only will develop his taste for music listening, but that it will keep his prying fingers away from my system too. biggrin.gif

It gave me so much pleasure assembling this nice little system over the months, that I´m thinking of starting a third, and similar one, for my oldest daughter, Inês, who´s 18, and really into music too.

To that end I already own a Pioneer PL-560 TT, a Philips CDR 880 CD recorder / player and an Onkyo T-5000 analogue tuner. I´ll be on the lookout for decent but cheap speakers and amplifier now.
