I am curious about how the size and math affect the actual response of the horn. Does that make sense? I have no input as of yet but thought it may be a good topic for others to learn from.

Here is a pic of a midbass/midrange horn that I slapped together. I followed the info found here: http://www.audioroundtable.com/PiSp...ages/14407.html. I first tried a 12 full range Utah driver I had laying around with surprising results. I immediately wanted to hear two of them so I slapped another together. Not having two 12 or 10 inch drivers that matched my dad remembered that he had some 6 1/2 inch coaxial car speakers, so we tried them. Now the original info said a 10" Emminence Delta woofer would produce a useable 200Hz to 2000Hz. I found that the car speakers easily played that low and because of the coaxial tweeter played much higher. I think as long as the speakers used is capable of those frequencies that this horn will work very well. I am curious to get home and make a set for myself and -*test*-('") them with a db meter and tone generator. We also tried filling in the bottom end with a small HT sub with a variable crossover(100HZ) and modest power with very good results as well. Enough enjoyment was derived for me to start to plan better construction and parts selections. I will try different shapes (not just straight sides) for the horn to see how it effects the frequency response/ouput. Keep watching as I will continue to post my findings and results.

Wish I could add something constructive here, but I'm pretty much clueless regarding horns. I do remember some discussion about horn size and issues in this Magico Ultimate review. It might not contain anything more than you already know, but plenty of eye candy.

Here is a good primer on horns by no means a comprehensive look.
There are many things that effect what you hear and usually the horn dictates the quality of sound,not the compression driver as you would think.

To expand on this subject the bigger the horn the lower its cutoff point and I believe the lowest a horn can go is 30hz.Something to do with phisics.

Can you do that out of metal?I ask because I noticed in your avatar something about metal manipulation.Sounds like a fun project!

I'm with charlieboy. I just love horns and tubes.

Steamer, to be a bit arrogant, yes I can make them from metal. If it's metal I can work it into something usable. Usually just and ash tray but certainly usable. I just ordered a couple of 48x96 sheets of 16ga plate steel to make some horns. I'm gonna try getting an exponential curve on at least two sides of the basic horn dimensions I posted earlier. I've got alot of ideas but not much information to draw from. I'll just wing it and make my own evaluations and conclusions. Ya gotta start somehow.

OK, I have figured out how to draw an exponential curve. Now, how does the wavelength of the frequencies covered and time apply? Anyone?
