I see posts frequently that it would be helpful to know what part of the country or world the poster lived in. For example a thread about Afforable Audio doing a vintage speaker of the month/quarter review. Since it's harder to get older equipment for evaluation if we knew where someone lived we could offer our gear. Or maybe know of someone in their area that might be able to help.

This goes for members looking for gear, selling or needing help in general. The frapper map is cute but not very helpful for that kind of thing.

Mike, I'm not sure how your suggestion could be implemented satisfactorily. Those who would post their location have already added it to their profile, which can be accessed with a click from any of the member's posts. For making it easy to see where people are relative to you, such would require going through each post of such a thread. Currently, nearby ST members can be seen at a glance in our Frappr map.

Some of us have family-imposed internet privacy rules that must be followed. Depending on certain circumstances, locations can be revealed in PM if warranted. Also, approximate locations can be guessed with reasonable accuracy when radio station call letters are mentioned, or certain shops or restaurants.
For example, NPR station WFCR is nearby for me, as well as Connecticut Public Radio. Looking up both would get you in the "close enough for 'net purposes" ballpark of where I am between the two, yet I've not said a single word about specifics.

I don´t have any such restrictions.

I´ll let you all know I´m in Portugal. The whole country is little bigger than NYC.

I've been to NYC. Twice. I'll bet anything that Portugal's nicer.

I was in NYC once at the end of 1994.

I was overwhelmed by the place, but I´m sure I wouldn´t like to live there.

Anyway I don´t like living in big cities. I´ve managed to live all my life on the outskirts of big cities.
