Do you have any rooms sound proof? If you do how did you do it? If you don't have you ever thought about it?

I have not built one... yet. However I have been contemplating building a 14x12 recording booth into the corner of my basement. The key to a soundproof room is basically building a room inside of a room, that includes the floor and ceiling. The only parts of the internal room that will touch the external room are the rubber pads that the floor framing of the internal room sits on. It is best to use outside doors as they are designed to be mostly air tight when closed. Use two of them, the external one opening outward providing access to the internal one which opens into the internal room. This is of course going a pretty extreme route, but will go far to achieve the desired result of "soundproof".

Plan "B" would be to create a series of panels which could be assembled inside of a useable room as needed. Not the all out solution mentioned above, but allows for more flexible use of the room.

I priced the panels @ 125.00 for a 4x8.

that can get real spendy real quick.

you could do it the way we did when we lived in the military barracks. grab all the spare mattresses and line the whole room with them.

I would just wear ear plugs, that way it would be sound proofed

Maybe because i don't listen music at loud volumes, i only need a few things for sound proof:
A thick carpet to absorb and reduces echoing.
Thick curtains are very efficient at absorbing sounds reflected from windows and wooden floor and furniture, and of course a big sofa and a beer. ...and i feel fine. wink.gif

No, my wife goes pretty much wherever she wants to.

Back in the day, the fiber egg cartons to line the walls, looked bad but effective.
