Well I suppose I should introduce myself.
I don't have a television, they get on my nerves.
I listen to everything from bluegrass to classical with the exception of rap and heavy metal. I have ~ a few hundred blues cds, some of them quite hard to get, that hold my attention currently. However, next week I may not want to hear anything except traditional Irish music and a month later bluegrass, classical or old country music - I can not stand new country, any new country, I hate it with a passion.
I have a Sansui 9090 downstairs that has a couple of pair of really nice SP-2500s hooked up and had a pair of JBL L-26 Decades in the third position. I now have it hooked to a pair of ADS L1290/2s that I scored the other day. I still have my B&O 1602 that I bought ~ 1982 and it still performs as it always has and a Dennon single disk player. This stereo system simply rocks and I have been known to sit downstairs rocking out with a six pack of beer and stacks of records and CDs on Friday evenings.
Upstairs I have a Sansui 5000A that is hooked to a pair of Sansui SP-2000s in the front room and a pair of crappy Onkyo bookshelf speakers in the bedroom. I have a linear tracking B&O TX upstairs that I have had forever and I like it OK, it need a cartridge right now though.
I knew not what I was buying when I bought the ADS L1290/2s and intended to use them in my bedroom. After hooking them up it was obvious that they were hungry for more power - I carted them downstairs and hooked them up to the Sansui 9090 and they really impressed me. However it still impresses me that they are still wanting more power and since I have a Hafler Class A 915 pre amp I'm thinking I will get a good solid amplifier and give the big Sansui to my brother along with the SP-2500s and the JBLs.
I'm really curios to see what those ADS speakers can sound like with some serious equipment behind them.
I haven't had my 9090 for all that long, I used to have a Marantz 2385 and a couple of HD-440s. I took the 2385 in for some minor service and am convinced that the "theft" from the shop was an inside job. They replaced it with a POS Dennon that I swapped off and have always hoped to replace that 2385 with another one. My friend has the HD-440s and I don't have the heart to reclaim them, but I still visit them.
I didn't have a clue what I was buying when I picked up the Hafler pre-amp as part of a deal but the guy that sits next to me at work used to be Dolby Systems East Coast Rep and he has let me know that Hafler is "the real McCoy" and since I have it, I'm thinking of putting it to use and building a really top notch music system downstairs.
the hafler pre's (all 3 of my pre's are haflers) and amps are very good equipment, especially for the money and you could do much worse.
