hey there, everyone! as some of you may recall, i recently made an earlier thread about my finding of a JVC RM-SR1010U programmable touch-panel remote, one of the very first A/V remotes to feature such technology. well, as it happened, i just came across a not quite mint, but decent condition JVC RM-S1 remote, with original box and all paperwork! this is the prototype, sold as a near $200.00 standalone accessory somewhere around 1987 or 1988, that the several A/V Receiver-bundled offspring such as the aforementioned RM-SR1010U are all based upon. nevertheless, it differs from it's descendants in several ways;
* it's body is cast of a semi-metallic black tone, with a rough finish to the touch. this is in lieu to it's two known descendants, one in a flat black, the other, the RM-SR1010U, in a metallic platinum to match the A/V Receiver it is attached to. further, both have a finish that is smooth to the touch.
* the RM-S1 is FULLY PROGRAMMABLE. that includes the hard buttons at it's bottom sector. it seems to have a programmable memory of at least 200 buttons. with the RM-SR1010U, and most likely the balance of the RM-S1 descendants, the hard buttons are permanently fixed to the JVC remote code standard. further, the programmable memory is rather limited in comparison to the fully programmable RM-S1.
anyway, all this might be considered TMI, and as such, excessively geeky of me, but what can i say? i have an affinity for vintage programmable A/V remote controls, and i figure that threads like these not only help to make people aware of all this high-technology art, but also serve as a valuable resource to the few out there that happen to be as crazy as i...

(FACEPALM) i forgot to include this pic yesterday, when i first posted this thread. this remote has the coolest packaging design i have yet seen in a consumer electronics product. Observe:

i count 15. most are attached to specific components in my system. i don't foresee much further growth, as i now pretty much have every remote that has ever tickled my fancy. i have been eyeing a NOS MEMOREX CP-8 universal that is currently available, but even then, i do not forsee the collection ever breaking twenty. still you can never be sure about what life tosses your way...
