I picked up a KR-6400 receiver today at the flea market, haven't had a chance yet to check it out, I'll post pics and all when I get her apart to clean her up.

A friend of mine had one and loved it. I thought it was a very nice sounding unit. Enjoy it.

the only Kenwood i've been exposed to was Todd's integrated that he was using to drive the high end on his Vandersteens (prior to his MX-2000). that little integrated never failed to impress me with its performance, it made a sweet sound.

what speakers do you plan to run with it, or is this not going to be a long term commitment?

Jim Eck- 04-28-2008
I am not planning on keeping it. I hope it sells better than what is showing for completed auctions. soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

for some reason there is a general perception out there that the mid-line Kenwood is not on par with the mid-line Yamaha and Pioneer of the same era. i used to think like that but, now i think Kenny's dont get the appreciation they deserve.

Jim Eck- 04-28-2008
I tend to agree with you, a lot of perception is what we hear from others and Kenny's never were mentioned a lot, Marantz. Yamaha, Pioneer were the buzz, Kenwood receivers if you check DXing, have many great receivers.

Anyway, I have found it a home in a good friend who was looking for a unit, I'll clean up the insides and the pots and pass it to him for what I have in it.

Back when I was binging, I got one of those. I think it's about the only thing I ever overpaid for, but seeing as I also got the/a matching tuner, it's a more appealing proposition. Mine needs work, and is on the "projects" pile.
It's such an esthetically gorgeous series, I can't let it go until I try to optimize it.

Onto things that actually matter..
how old is your boy, Jim? Mine is 22, about halfway thru college after a late start.
Told me today he likely got 2 A's and 2 B's this semester.
It's fun and gratifying and scary watching, isn't it?

Aaron will be 22 this summer, after trying his hand at electronics he opted out and decided he wanted to do HVAC, it is a good trade so I have been pulling a string or two to help try to get him in the Union and employed, not to much but some nudges hopefully it all works out.

As for the receiver, I won't make anything on it, but I have a friend looking for a garage receiver, at 45 wpc and a nice build these should be worth more than they bring, soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif , other than filthiy the only thing wrong is a lamp being out, I heard back from Dave and will be getting the lamp shortly. Now just some major cleaning, insides, pots and switches.

My 19 year old son will be transferring (from junior college) to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall to start his junior year in electrical engineering. They now have a program called "+1" that will get you a master's degree with an extra year of studies, so that will probably be his path.

Sounds like the three of us are in about the same boat. I think Jorge's daughter Ines is about the same age, but I already have dibs on her......... for my son biggrin.gif

There was a girl in our neighborhood when I was a kid who went into a convent.
