I live in Munich, Germany and i am an enthusiast in the Pioneer Urushi series and in vintage HiFi as well. I found your forum while retrieving the web for informations on the Pioneer PL-90, and McGyvers posts were leading me here.
My HiFi stuff: Pioneer C-90 Pioneer M-90 Pioneer CT-91 Pioneer CT-93 Pioneer F-93 Pioneer DV-F07 Pioneer DV-38A Pioneer GR-777 (in Urushu finish, probably unique in the world) Pioneer VSX-39TX Pioneer PL-90 Pioneer HPM-150 several Pioneer vintage headphones Dual Golden1 Sony PS-X800 ADC Accutrac 4000 Garrard MRM-101 dbx 3bx-ds Onkyo TX-8500 Pioneer SX-727 Technics SA-6700SX with scope Packard-Bell R-1040 and some more, but there is always some turnover.

Yes, the TX-8500 is my preferred vintage receiver. Now it got a new socket and is the eye-catcher in my living room:

I have a pair. One needs a new tuning needle light. Was my first 100+ wpc unit. Very impressive to see in person.

damn, that's one nice ELITE set! you've even got the version of the CT-91 i want so bad, with the "Reference Cassette Deck" legend on the cassette door! i'm envious!!
MacGyver- 06-13-2009
wait a minute, HOLD THE PHONE!! the EQ there on the top; is that an ACTUAL ELITE version of the GR-777?!?! i had no idea PIONEER made such a thing!! can you please show me a close up of it? i have a GR-777, and i was planning on scaring up an SP-91D, that shares a lot of common parts with the 777, so i could ELITE-ize my 777;

Very nice setup and looks. BTW, did you check the cable connections once in a while? Tanx for sharing.

No problems with the cable connections. On the right side behind the partition there is a service door and so i can hook up very comfortable.
MacGyver: You're planning exactly what i did I took the side panels from a SP-91D, they fit the GR-777 in height perfectly, and the front of the GR-777 is coated with clear varnish.
Now to bed ! It's 1:30 am here in Germany
MacGyver- 06-14-2009
AMAZING. two minds, on other sides of the planet, thinking exactly alike!! clear varnish, eh? WOW, that really works! i never thought of that, only the side panels and gold escutcheons. still, i'll have to look into how that would be done...

Beautiful Pioneer Elite stack! I have the M-90 / C-90 / CT-91 set.
The TX-8500 has one of the best amp sections in a receiver. My tech, who was one of the original designers of the amp section recently put a TX-8500 on the bench to demonstrate the performance on an o'scope and the speed rivaled separates. However, the preamp was not as fast and is not up to the task. If you have a fast preamp, you will hear how good the TX-8500 amp is.

Unsure what a "fast" pre is but I'm willing to experiment
