The Luxman R-117 is my favorite remote controlled receiver and perhaps my favorite Eighties receiver. It is rated at 160 wpc and has over 350 wpc of headroom (can't remember exactly but it is huge).

I now have two R-117's. Here is a picture of my number one R-117 with my D-109 CDP on top. I just got another fixer R-117 from the 'bay. It had a cut power cord so hopefully, that is all. R-117's have a processor that goes bad and cannot be replaced.

i've had mine for several years and i think i appreciated it most when i used it to bi-amp my AR9's. for the most part it drove the upper end while serving as the pre-amp for a Yamaha CR-2020 that drove the woofers. i think the pre-stage on the R-117 is dynamite.

Yes, the R-117 preamp is a gem. I used to have a pair of M-117 power amps that I ran with the R-117's two sets of pre outs. The R-117 by itself sounded much better than the R-117/M-117 combo so they are gone now.

I mentioned the luxman to dingus, and it worked out great for him and his ar9's, but when he upgraded his amps he let me try his luxman and we go back to "synergy" it didnt put out the sound that I like with my setup.

It didnt sound bad by any means, just didnt have what I like in sound. but it is a power house. lots of beef.

The R-117 is a modern sounding amp in the Eighties mode but it doesn't sound tinny like the consumer crap. It has some of the smoothness and depth of the older stuff but perhaps not enough to satisfy true vintage fans.

I have the R-115 receiver and it's a winner and a keeper.

An R-115 just sold on ebay for an incredible $266, with no remote.

Got my R-115, a Niles sub amp and another odd commercial amp for $75, but the junk store guy was hardup for cash that day...
