I found a Marantz 2226 at the flea market yesterday, still need to hook it up and clean it up and all, here are the specs http://www.classic-audio.com/marantz/2226.html I still have a Sansui sitting on the bench,(real close to the title of a Poco song (Sittin on a Fence)) just not enough hours in the day.

Congrats! I never pass on flea market priced Marantz. The later 2226B has chip type output transistors, which makes it less "Marantz" sounding in my book.

Sam- what's your attraction to Marantz kit? I find it interesting (but logical) regarding your speaker preferences.

I'd liked to have owned one of the classic metered Marantz units but it'd be overkill and redundant with my Sansui BA-2000 and trio of B&Ks. The twin Denon POA-1500 IIs are a bit different sonically than the Marantz and Sansui and B&K which I'm roughly lumping in together- but not quite polarized towards the typical Adcom/Yammie sound either.

I tended to retain more Marantz gear than other brands and when I made collection culls, the larger Marantz stayed. All of them are fairly good sounding and IMO, most of the receivers are tops in wattage class. I like the looks and the snob appeal. I also like the fact Marantz tend to keep value and that everyone recognizes the name.

To tell you the truth, I prefer the forward sound of my Yamaha set. I have only one Marantz amp set up, the rest get some play but not much. They are all keepers.
