Hmmm... I once for a few short months owned a Yamaha pre and amp, but I don't recall the model #s. The amp looked almost exactly like that M-2, but mine didn't have heatsinks down the side. Any idea which model that may have been? The preamp had a panel that covered most of the smaller controls.

BINGO! That was it! So tell me... did I let a real winner get away when I sold it? It replaced a Kenwood integrated that was part of my first stereo system, and was definitely a step up. I then sold the Yamaha gear and went with Carver. Unfortunately the Yamaha went a few months before the Carver stuff arrived, so I could never compare them back to back. However I suspect the Yamaha gear might have been the better equipment.
