Hi.....

I'm new here at this forum and like to say soundt/action-smiley-065.gif

I am buying a Sansui BA 5000 in the next day or so and would like to know if anyone
re-builds these units (Los Angeles area would be fab).
What areas of improvement could you guys recommend and what can I expect performance wise
after the re-build.

Thanks in advance

peter

CDfixer over at Audiokarma.org does re-cap restorations. He is in the L.A. area. When you contact him, there is no need to mention our site. (It's a long story.)

You might also contact member BeatleFred, he is the MAN when it comes to Sansui, he owns at least two BA5000 amp's, the last I heard.

A BA 5000?

Good god! Congrats!

I'm an owner of a CA-2000 and love it. The amps have been elusive when I have cash, plentiful when I'm broke, but never really see a 5000.

Wow! soundt/Tflex.gif

What I really love to do is to Mono the amp and add an other BA 5000 on the other side...
Anyone knows about another BA 5000 available? (I'm hoping against the odds).

Hi Peter:

Did you buy the BA-5000 you had mentioned? As for another one so that you could run them in 600 W mono, there is one on Ebay now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SANSUI-BA-5000-SUPER-P...%3A1%7C294%3A50

I seem to recall this one was on Ebay before, and its missing the right handle (and looks like power switch is non-original either), so its up to you to decide how much you want it, or if you prefer to wait for another one in better condition. Not having a handle is a drawback since this amp is VERY heavy, and trying to lift it without aid of a handle is really asking to give yourself a hernia.

As for doing any mods, it would be best to have someone in your area do it, and minimize the time spent to have to ship it too far, considering its hefty weight. With that in mind, two people I can think of are 'Quad Bob' (well known online, great guy, very knowledgeable) and another person I know is Rick at Allegro Sound - Ive spoken to him on the phone - he is a bit of a character with very strong opinions, but he seems to have alot of experience with BA-5K mods, so you can always contact him if you're interested:

ps: Hello Jim- Thanks for the kind words, you've always been a good Sansui friend of mine. Stop by sansui.us sometime, you'll find me there on the forums when time allows. I just added another amp to my collection, a BA-F1. EXCELLENT amp!

Thanks for dropping in and sharing BeatleFred, how are the Infinity's doing?

Hi Jim:

I presume you're referring to the Renaissance 90's (and not the Quantum 3's, Qb's,or Qe's). As you may recall, I have two pairs of Ren 90's- I was extremely fortunate last year to acquire a set in the very rare hi gloss black which I have setup in my basement- they are really stunning speakers. I moved my first pair, the blonde oak, upstairs to the livingroom. The dimensions of the livingroom arent ideal, so I will have to experiment with the layout at some point to see how I can can get the best sound quality.

Fred.
