I sent Nakdoc (of AK fame) a Yamaha B-2x amp for a complete refurbishing. The work has been completed, and it will be shipped tomorrow. In addition to recapping (with Black Gates used in the signal path) he also replaced the main filter caps and bypassed them using BG's.
Here's what he had to say about the B-2x:

| I've listened to your B2x for about an hour now. What do you consider it's strengths? I am struck by its imaging ability. I've listened to many high end amplifiers over the years and I can't name one that is better. I had to sort through various DVD and CD players here to find as it was very easy to hear differences in the source. On dynamic material the amp is effortless. It does not show mercy with beryllium domes the way my B1 does, but on DVD-Audio with a clean high end the treble is perfect. |
very nice Mark. the B-2x does a fantastic job with the AR9's.
Black Gates have a great sonic impact. Mostly in the signal path. I'll bet you won't recognize your "new" Yamaha...
Keep us posted.
Will it better your 10000, you think?

What do you think Jorge?
I've got a number of amps to compare the Nakdoc refurbished B-2x to:
* stock B-2x
* EchoWars refurbished B-1
* EchoWars refurbished B-2
* MX-D1
* MX-10000
* MX-2000
* MX-1

I'll be sure to do that Scott.
and an mx2000, if you are just giving your equipment away, would be great to have one on each speaker.
so, give me a holler too.

Thanks for the reminder Todd. I'll need to add the MX-2000 to the list. Might as well include the MX-1 too.
whatever the mx-1 is, but if its cool, you know who

Hello there,
Speaking of refurbishing my favorite brand of Yammies...my M-80 has served me dutifully for nearly 20 years. Other than replacing the power cord 1 year ago it's never been molested. Even the lights work properly but it must be nearing time for an overhaul before anything goes awry.
Who do you trust with Yamaha antiques and any reasonable idea of cost for a quality tune-up? Outside of shipping is there a way to establish a budget?

Me and dingus have had good luck with merrylander on audiokarma, works specifically with yamahas. but of course it would need to be shipped to maryland.

Mark,
Did you get your NS-1000s working by the way?
