I got a set of canare IC's from Speakerman a couple weeks ago, I have been putting off posting my thoughts for a while to let them break in and because my pre-amp is having issues.

When the pre-amp has both channels working I can get some time to give it a listen. I dont have picts, maybe larry does, or a link to his site that has a picture of the IC's,

I was bi-amping my yamaha and adcom amps, and it just seemed like something was missing, I got the canare's and tried them from the DAC to the Pre-amp and didnt like the sound, it was very very clear and crisp, but a little too forward and not smooth anymore. so I put the canares on the Amp to the Pre, and am using a set of Grant fidelity IC's on the DAC - Preamp.

Big differnce in sound, I didnt think there would be that big of an improvement. and unimprovement. what does that mean? I really like the the clarity througout all the sound. Separtion of the instruments are very clear and balanced. the vocals and harmonies are so good that it seems that you can hear each singer separetly.
Bass lines, guitar sustain just seem to go a little longer, smoother and clearer. The lows are clear and crisp, But I am not a huge low describer. "sounds like a bush'ism, dont it". The other thing that is intrigueing, is that It seems like I can hear the producer sliding his mixing board tracks channel to channel. Its a new sound, I notice it now, not sure how long I will notice that or if its my imagination.

And the Unimprovement. well I really like the IC"s, but I think they do such a good job that most of the crappy mastered discs of the 80's are exploited for all their weaknesses. no low end, no dynamic range, thin mids and highs. just ruins most of those hatchet job analog conversions to CD. To their credit, good cd from that era that has been mastered correctly sounds superb. When I win the lotto, I will certainly be getting a couple more sets of the canare's, I liked the Grant Fidelity IC's they were a big step above the Kimber PBJ's but the canares IMO are another step above.

Well, maybe both. smile.gif
Sometimes a good set of IC's is what a good setup needs to reveal all its nuances. I don’t know any Canare cable but I have also some good cables from Supra, Qed and Audioquest that I like a lot and I do believe that in some cases good cables matters and sonically works. Enjoy. soundt/thumbup.gif

well, I wouldnt say it was a huge improvement in sound, but it was subtle, and for me change can be good sometimes, because its just different, slightly, so listening to something I am familiar with, and its a little different sounding, that sparks my interest in listening to that cd again. I really like making little changes in my system just to see if I can hear something different, and these cables did that, cant wait to win the lottery then I can by some better ones.

I have some better ones. Those were midfi Tara Labs. I am glad you could hear a difference though. They aren't bad for the price.

I had the opportunity to work some Overtime, it will pay off the oven, and little left over. Most of the time the sun shines after it pours for a couple days.

thanks again for the great cables

I took the preamp up to the shop yesterday and I looked at the IC's and they are Tara Labs, for some reason I thought they were canare.

I hope it doesn't take long for the turnaround.

John is very personable, been doing electronics for 35+ years, and talks a lot, I dropped off the pre, and was still there an 1 1/2 hours later I finally got out before rush hour. He just got the teac belts in also, so It will probably be a couple weeks for both.
