i see you are looking for the servo controller, do you think that is the problem or is it more of a shot in the dark?

The servo control is something that I want to get regardless.

i see. have you contacted the previous owner to see if he can shed any light on the issue?

Don't want to hi-jack too much but what exactly is servo control?

The previous owner was given the speakers. He is not an audio afficianado.

The servo control unit controls the output of the woofers using a feedback loop that compares the output frequency and amplitude from the woofers to the input signal. If they are not in synch the servo control sends a signal that cancels out the incorrect output from the woofer. Of course it does this really fast so it doesn't screw up the music. The bass response of the speakers without the servo control goes down to 28Hz. With the servo control the bass response goes down to 15Hz.

Interesting Mark. Here is some wiki info on servo controls...

Some active subwoofers use a servo feedback mechanism based on cone movement which modifies the signal sent to the voice coil. The servo feedback signal is derived from a comparison of the input signal to the amplifier versus the actual motion of the cone. The usual source of the feedback signal is a few turns of voice coil attached to the cone or a microchip-based accelerometer placed on the cone itself.[26][27] An advantage of a well-implemented servo subwoofer design is reduced distortion making smaller enclosure sizes possible.[28][29] The primary disadvantages are cost and complexity.[30]

I'm generally suspicious of trick circuitry or controls so I'm curious to follow your developments and results. I hope you get your bass situation resolved.

Infinity did it right with the IRS series.

I'm very satisfied with the bass for now. Listening to Jethro Tull's Broadsword And The Beast. Sounds great, and I can feel the bass.

The cause of the imbalance between the bass and the top-end has been found and corrected. It was suggested several times that I check the phase of the woofers. Last night I finally did. Both servo woofers were wired out-of-phase and both slave woofers were wired in-phase. soundt/doh.gif This morning I rewired the servo woofers in-phase and hooked up the MX-10000 to drive them full range.

Outstanding! I am glad to hear you finally got this worked out.

Great news!

dingus- 12-26-2008
its always nice when the fix is simple and easy. i wonder if the previous owner sold them because of this?

Superfly- 12-26-2008
I must hear those some day.

I can't help but think it played a part in them being sold.

I bet a re-foam was done at some point and the wires crossed.
