Yes, it is I--Number 6. (aka Jon.)

(Bonus points to anyone that gets the reference...)

Thanks for the nice words of welcome. I'm kind of a closet vintage audio nut, with my primary interest (some might say fetish?) being in vintage speakers. I not infrequently find myself trolling eBay just to look at the diversity of designs.

Currently I don't own anything really interesting in terms of gear (I'm pretty limited both in storage and listening space). but in past I've had SAE, Phase Linear, an early 70's Sansui receiver, a modded DH-500, and some Marantz gear along with a pair of Heresy's purchased new in the late 60's by my father, a pair of AR LST2's, some AR4ax's, and currently a bunch 80's vintage Boston stuff (T830's/A60's/A40's) as my music/HT setup. I'm driving them off a modern HT receiver, though.

The only semi-interesting SS stuff I still own is some Audio Dynamics pieces built in the late 80's--CA-2000E integrated and the matching tuner + cd player. (which I purchased new at the Montgomery Ward in Salem, OR in 1990--for about 10% MSRP for all three pieces). If you haven't seen them, they look a bit like Adcom pieces, but all three units are very slim in height--the amp is also much deeper than a typical component.

They've been in storage for a number of years, and during that time the speaker-selection relays seem to have gone faulty. I live in Seattle--so if anyone can recommend a good shop that would be able to replace them (and isn't Hawthorne), I'd appreciate it. I've heard of a good man out in Redmond but unfortunately lost the name of his shop.

I'm hoping to find a different house within the next 1-2 years that will allow me to have a dedicated 2chan setup in one room and the HT setup in another. I'd love to steal my father's (basically unused) GFA-555 and Forte II's, but also am interested in auditioning both the a/d/s L1230's and Vandersteen 2ce's (I've always wanted a pair of a/d/s speakers--not entirely sure why, but I do). No room here for any such thing, unfortunately, so until then I wait and learn. smile.gif

It looks like there are a number of folks here from the PNW--I'd be interested in knowing where y'all are and where you find your stuff. I occasionally look at Craigslist but given my storage limitations I've not pulled the trigger on anything more than the T830's of late.

I also have other expensive habits--erm, hobbies--including cars (I'm currently down to just one) and boats (specifically an Ericson sailboat, which has a Nakamichi mobile CD unit installed in it with some nice a/d/s box speakers).

I will let you know how this shop in greenlake on aurora ave in Seattle is after I get my teac x-2000r and my Yamaha cx-2000 back from being repaired, The owner seems like he knows what he is doing, its called northwest audio.

I live in the metropolis of buckley, with a set of vandersteen 2c's. we might have to have a mini get together with a few other local ST'ers and give a listen, especially after I get the Reel to reel back.

Wow--He's in my neighborhood, I could walk there (albeit not lugging the CA-2000E).

I'm eager to hear your report. What's he doing for you?

Elroy- 04-08-2009
he fixed a adcom gfa 555, it just needed new IC connectors, he has my teac x-2000r Reel to reel, for a tune up and belts. and I didnt have time today to take up my yamaha Pre-amp "cx-2000" because it has a broken solder joint in the left channel or a bad component. If things go well tomorrow, I will take it up.

must be your good instincts. i really like the ADS sound and own L810's and L710's. in fact it was the L810 that got elroy back into audio.
