Ever since I joined, every time I log on, and every time I change pages, I get a security pop-up asking if I want to download Adobe Flash Player 9. Do I need it for the site? If not, is there a way to stop it. "No" doesn't seem to work.

Keep in mind that I am computer illiterate. I still am trying to find out why you have to click on "Start" to shut the thing off.

I do not get this popup. Anyone else? I am using Firefox as my web browser.

You shouldn't be getting that at all since this forum is being run in the "Invision Power Board" safe mode settings that maximizes compatibility. Nothing I've implemented here uses Flash anyways and I've not encountered that error in IE 6, Firefox, nor even Netscape.

Are you trying to run the chat function? That's hosted separately, but may use Flash coding in addition to the rest. The easiest way to tell is if you see something about 'gabbly' before this site's URL.

No, I have not used the chat yet. It is somehow tied to the advertisement banner at the top of the page. When the pop-up occurs, that banner is blank. It locks the screen until I hit "NO". This is the only place online that it does it. I'm using Windows 98 and IE.

I noticed yesterday or the day before that any time I tried to log on ST, the progress bar in my toolbar would take FOREVER to finish, even though the screen was full and operational. It also had "google ads"listed as part of the address. I noticed that the ad banner that I mentioned before hosts the same name. My bet is that one of the ad banners requires a flash player that my computer does not have. Rememeber, I have not updated ANYTHING in thes 1999 vintage computer.

Well, that's likely the issue there. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it on this end. The free forum host requires the advertisement banner and I haven't the ability to change it.

You could try downloading Firefox, but if you've not updated your computer in 7 years, then it's likely to cause issues during install as well.

That's kinda what I figured. Since I'm the only one who gets it, I figured it was just me, but thought I'd ask. Thanks for the info.

By the way, I still use an old manual tire changer. Some things are just hard to change......................... biggrin.gif
