Well I got it yesterday. Sounds great. Only 1 problem can only record in 1 direction. I'm recording CDs to see if I can get some analog warmth in them.

Is that deck supposed to be capable of recording in both directions?
Check the Service Manual.

yes don't worry. this thing sounds great to bad you can't hear it. it will be ok for now. thanks
I know. Man I can live with this sound in 1 direction right now. You should hook up that Teac. It's great to set your own peaks.

LOL. OK Well I got Mine fixed. I just kept cleaning it. Now both sides record. Elroy you won't believe the sound.

My roomate in 1984 had a pioneer 909. yeah it was awesome, I always wanted one but didnt ever get one, If I would have stayed into vinyl I might have gotten one a long time ago, but didnt.
it is interesting that your r2r takes the edge off some cd's. is it specific cd's or them in general?

I am hopeful that he will let me use it, it has been in storage for 10-20 years, in it box. so why not let someone like me use it. right. well thats how I am going to propose it when I talk to him.

Congrats & enjoy.

Glad to hear you got her working! R2R decks can be a joy, and with good tape at 7.5ips there's not much between the sound off a R2R and reality.
