The mod is basically an alternative to a larger music server. I have seen other versions that mount in a wall slot and can be remote controlled.

Kinda hard to read, I'd think, from across the room, eh?

Now here's something to think about. I've seen Phono pre-amps that are 9v battery powered. Do you think this could pose an issue towards gear?

And headphone Amps that are battery powered- defaulted because the signal is being sent to headphones and not acting as a source input? Same perhaps for chip amps that are battery powered, like the T-amp sending a signal off to speakers?

How about tube buffers that are battery powered?

Power supply is the problem with these devices. Batteries have a limited lifespan measured in hours. WHY, WHY, WHY unless you are living in a shoe box and don't have the room.

Folk claim they are quieter with battery than with the power grid. No line noise, no wild fluctuations, etc.

But that's one more thing you need to worry about. Get a line conditioner and don't worry about batterys getting tired.

Portable headphone amp? Sure. Portable iPod or Walkman or MiniDisc or CDP? Sure.

But home use? I prefer a beefier power supply.

But I'm also not a fan of passive pre-amps.

What do I know? I'm just a rabbit with a smoking habit.

AC vs. DC operation. No 60 Hz frequency. Interesting.

True, a power conditioner takes care of wall current and is a must.

I'm a huge fan of line stage preamps like my Sony TA-E90ES. I pick gear that is well balanced to begin with and never use compensation because this decreases input/output accuracy.

Power supplies that are heavy metal? soundt/awesome.gif
