Will be interesting to see what this one sells for. Its quite rare to see one available.
I was quite fortunate to obtain mine a few years ago, along with the matching C-2301 preamp. These are VERY high quality Sansui products that stand apart from many of the other models they made at the time in the mid-late 1980's.

Dont see much info in the Ebay ad from the seller, nor any pics.

Here's a pic I have, though not of my particular one. Found it somewhere online a long while ago:

Fred, how does the actual sound compare to the BA-5000?

BeatleFred- 07-05-2007
I had a feeling someone would ask me that, as Ive been asked before smile.gif

Thats a tough question. Its like asking me: which arm do I prefer, my left or right?
They are both superb, top-notch amplifiers, though made by Sansui at different times.

I do like the fact that the B-2301 runs cooler, which is impressive for a 300 Watt beast that has no cooling fan. The BA-5000 tends to get quite warm after its been on a while.

In order to try and do a fair listening -*test*-('"), I should probably compare them using the same preamps and interconnect cables, etc. But due to all the stuff I have, its a bit of an effort to have to start swapping things around and connect either the CA-3000 or C-2301 to the BA-5000 or B-2301. The other thing to keep in mind is if both amps are setup properly,: bias, dc offset, electrolytic caps are still good etc.., otherwise the comparison probably wont be accurate.

Nonetheless, I suppose if I really had to make a choice, it would be the BA-5000.
Its has a very warm, pleasing sound, and of course, can provide tremendous power if needed. No other Sansui model is quite like it. It can be bridged to mono for 600Watts in case anyone has the desire to destroy the neighborhood smile.gif
The B-2301 is great, but I think the BA-5000 is still The King.

Is the BA-5000 the one in your avatar, Fred?

That is one gorgeous looking amp.

Another very nice unit from Sansui. It's quite elegant looking, eh?

BeatleFred- 07-06-2007
The avatar pic actually is one of the BA-5000's I own. The pic was taken when the seller whom I bought it from still had it. He had taken a bunch of pics, along with the CA-3000 preamp that also came with it. I'm very proud to own this amp, as its in virtually new-looking condition. Another BA-5000 I have also happens to be in near-new condition. Luckily, the seller happened to live fairly close by, so I was able to buy it from him directly. It didnt come cheap though..., but I think it was still well worth it.

Perhaps I can expand the avatar pic a bit:

Here's some of the hi fi equipment in my basement, you might be able to see one of the BA-5K's thats on with the glowing green meters. The B-2301 is to the left of it, but it was off when I took the pic, I shouldve turned it on to capture its nice power meter display:

Stunning gear Fred!

Do you have any plans on displaying it in some nice racks or cabinets?

I'd really like to remodel the whole basement so that I can have better layout for all the stuff, but to do the remodeling (hiring a contractor), will be costly for some of the ideas I have in mind, so for the time being, I just have to make the best of it with the way it is now.

I'd LOVE to own a huge loft which would provide plenty of wide open space for all the hi fi & musical equipment, but with the insane real estate market here in the NYC area, I would never be able to buy a loft unless I hit the lottery... (keep dreaming....).

As a fella who had dual citys I worked in, Manhattan being one of them, I'm suprised you even have that much room, Fred.

What part of NYC are you located in?

ps- I recently aquired a CA-2000. What a nice pre-amp, indeed.

I live in Queens. My parents bought the house back in 1970 when it cost alot less than what they sell for nowadays. All the houses are attached on my block, so they're not very wide, about 18'. The houses were built in 1928, back then, it seems like they didnt envision basements to be inhabitable, so they didnt dig too much into the ground, thus the height from ceiling to floor is rather low. With the dropped ceiling tiles I have, its only 6'4" high. I'm about 5'9- 5'10", so I can manage, but when people like my brother come over to visit who is 6'3", his head barely clearly the ceiling.

Busting thru the concrete to get more height would be a major task, and very costly. So, I'm trying to figure out what my best options are. The layout of the rooms upstairs arent conducive to having audio equipment up there, so the basement, depite its limitations, is actually the best place for all the stuff.

As high as the houses sell for here in Queens, its not much better out on Long Island. The property tax itself will be much higher just living out there. Going Upstate would be an idea, but then the long commutte to work in NYC would be something to have to deal with day in& out.

Fabulous setup BeatleFred. The nicest collection of Sansui gear I've seen. What kind of music do you enjoy listening to with your system?

BeatleFred- 07-07-2007
There's actually more stuff than the pic shows. If I could afford to do a remodel, I think I would be able to have a much better arrangement.

As for Music, gee....., all classic Rock/Pop: Beatles/Paul/Wings, Stones, The Kinks Dylan, late 70's New Wave: Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Blondie, Brian Eno, etc., Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler, Chris Isaak, Fleetwood Mac, The Smiths. Also like: Ry Cooder, Leo Kottke, John Fahey, Doc Watson, Loudon Wainwright III, Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell, the list could go on & on...

Where'd it go? Was there a BIN?
