And so it begins, she sure is filthy inside, suprisingly only one lamp is out, I take that back I need to check all of the function lamps and the stereo lamp. The pots are absolutely terrible and will take extensive cleaning, but here she is naked and dirty. The transformer is half decent size, but look at how small the caps are.

I've seen a couple of these on CL for 175 or so. do you have to have quad recordings to get decent sound out of them?

Jim Eck- 01-06-2009
No quad recordings, but it looks almost like a it could be used as a surround receiver, later when cleaned up I will get some better faceplate pictures.

I don't plan on keeping it, once it is cleaned up it will start looking for a new home, I have one guy at work that this might be just right for.

Wonder how 'Sui got four channels out of those puny caps? Interesting Kabuki receiver look!

My thoughts exactly, for the claimed rated output power it makes me wonder. Having a very under rated G-8000 this doesn't seem to go along with Sansui's usual rating, but what do I know. biggrin.gif

Looking at the different settings it seems like it could be used as a primitive surround system, it has Hall, Surround settings a powered sub and it could be used, not to say it would compete with a real 5.1 but it would make a nice large chunk sitting in a room to say "well, bigger must be better" rolleyes.gif , this thing is huge.

Wow, analog sound processing? Or is there an early chip doing this? Is the quad decoder built in?

Jim Eck- 01-07-2009
Sound processing yes, but no decoder as in 5.1. But it does have balance adjustment for front to back, left to right and a middle?

It also has connections, I say connections for 4 sets of speakers, I can't see that I would attempt it.
